If you are talking to me about importing 'scab' labour mgfg. Then no, I do not work for Yanke, I just did a C&P of what is on the recruiting site regarding overseas drivers.
Most companies import drivers from the UK because the government pays them to do it. I think they get to keep the money even if the driver leaves and goes back home. Many companies make it as miserable as possible on the imported drivers in order to get them to leave so they can pad their bottom lines.

Missed the C&P Flying Finn.
I don't know how the system works all I know is there's no proven shortage of drivers therefore there's no need to import truck drivers. It's simple supply and demand just like the price of corn right now. China is buying corn like it's going to run out of inventory and the price is going through the roof. Truck driver wages aren't going up let alone sky rocketing which means there's no shortage of drivers. I can't make the analogy any more simple than that. -
I agree with you there mgfg. If we would look internally first and take care of those in our own countries we could then have more to provide in aid to others.

It's a tough sell to most people. When our problems are solved at home then we should look else where.
Canada should import Doctors right now. There is a desperate shortage in many areas. Myself personally, I just found a family doctor for the first time in 30 years, that was taking new patients. I live in a region that has a population of over 100,000 people. That to me is a shortage. We as a country are partly to blame for the shortage. We have underpaid our doctors for years and the have fled the country. We have to stop the bleeding of doctors (no pun) and get Canadians the health care that we deserve. (With a per visit fee imho) -
Yes, a per visit fee. Reasonable of course, say $20 or something as well as a non-emergency visit fee to the ER would greatly reduce the number of people bringing in the little "pookie-boo has a sniffle and I don't know whats wrong". Emerg is for just that, emergencies. Not once have I brought any of our 5 kids or myself to Emerg unless something was serious. A little cut or a cold is NO reason to head to Emerg.
We also need to allow more walk in clinics, those should be mandated that doctors need to serve in them. That would reduce the Emerg waits. Then again, those things make sense and when has a government ever done anything that makes sense? -
WOW, you and I could solve the health care problems of this country!
-
LOL, maybe so.

I didn't say it didn't work, it's not perfect...but nothing is. Yes, our socialized medecine kicks the American way of doing it ANY day of the week BUT we have some issues. Certain areas of the country do suffer from a doctor shortage but that doesn't mean that we don't get care, we have to go to a walk in clinic or a hospital emergency room. The problem this creates is the emergency rooms get backed up and there are extremely long waits. I can go to a walk in clinic and be seen in an hour any day of the week so really there is no real problems.

so ---you would rather have a doctor come from another country who will work for a lower wage, cause the canadian doctors mainley go to the us
but its not ok to bring truck drivers here from other countries when companies cant fill up their trucks
sounds pretty much the same to me
but wait--honestely i am not that fond of people coming here to drive either--look what it did to the jobs in the gta and vancouver areas--they are kinda monopolized now---the only problem i have is when some are called bottom feeders, when i reality they are far from it---true the majority of them are run by the mennonite mafia and their family companies---but if you arnt family--you get treated like crap--but a few others are pretty good companies--not the best but still pretty good
