Don't do it, unless you want to do that with a trailer equipped with swing doors, which is a colossal pain in the hind end. I see a lot of that with them.

Does anyone know if Central Transport hourly/local pays 8hrs a day for 12hrs of work or do they straight hourly plus overtime? I saw something on this sight that LTL companies don't have to pay over time if you work hourly. What other LTL companies give you a hourly salary based on 8hrs and run you to death? I would like to know if Central does this. thanks for any info?

If they did that no sane man would work there.

I think straight hourly but with no overtime.

They don't have to pay overtime unless it's a union company and it's in the contract. Any for-hire motor carrier engaged in interstate commerce is exempt from federal overtime provisions.

No company that I know of does that kind of crooked crapola. I've never heard of it, so I highly doubt if Central does that.

I think you misunderstand the meaning of the words "no overtime". If you are an hourly paid employee of a trucking company you will be paid for every hour you work. You just don't get the time-and-a-half after 40 hours. Trucking companies are exempt from that under federal law.

Yeah TT, your story is unfortunately pretty typical. A lot of the P&D drivers out of Romulus were unhappy, but they were staying there because thanks to the depressed local economy, they had to. But it was nothing for them to run 10-12+ hour shifts, regularly, go home, get a few winks, and come back and do it again. Pretty much what us nighttime linehaul dopes were doing.

Mack, to answer your question, most of the trlrs used for P&D have roll doors, just CT has so many more road trlrs with swings on 'em.

Starting a night dock/driver position out of Flint. Any input from anyone good or bad?

Camino, I would advise you to keep a positive attitude, but prepare for the worst. Read everything that we have written here, so can have an idea of what you can expect (if things go badly).

HOWEVER, remember, everyone's experience is different. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I would advise you to keep looking the combo drivers at my terminal where not being payed for all the hours they where working on the dock, talk to some of the combo drivers out of that terminal be point blank with them, also check the condition of equipment as as a nationwide DOT check is about to take place

Aw hell, that DOT blitz is just what the doctor ordered, at least some of their crappier equipment will HAVE to be fixed!
