I have this habit:
When I do research, look for stuff, compare things, etc., I almost always wind up at the beginning of the search. Sort of like completing a circle, coming back to where I started.
Huh? Well, what I'm trying to say is this:
When I first started considering a trucking company to try and get on with after I learned my school would not help me find a job, I remember being impressed with the looks of a C R England rig rolling down a freeway. As I drove my fire-engine red 1965 El Camino behind the rig, then slowly passing it on the left, I thought, "Now that's a nice looking truck!" Years ago I learned to "not judge a book by it's cover." After having lived a bit and going around the block a few times, I have learned to sometimes "always judge a book by it's cover." Who knows? I have no experience. November 29th I will start their refresher course in Mira Loma, CA. Their trucks sure do look nice.
By the way, yesterday I was told the fee will be waived when I go. Thanks again CorporalClegg for the heads up. Hope we meet some day. Dinner's on me. Anyone considering a CRE refresher, it's still a freebie. I was told their special does indeed extend beyond headless turkey day, and that is so nice since I have plans next week that will no doubt be remembered for many years to come.
Thank you all for posting, you don't know how it has helped me. -
Cool man, good luck, I hope you have a blast!!
Would be cool to meet on the road sometime. -
It's a long road but you never do know!

Let's see. I think yesterday was my 17th day here at the CRE refresher course, and I was made an offer to team with a driver who does a dedicated run and is home every weekend. Will find out more today. Yesterday I was told to pack my bags at the hotel and be ready to roll. England has been pretty good to me. I cannot really complain at all.

My recruiter told me the normal fee is $500 for a refresher course but right now they have a temporary reduced fee of $100. The weird thing is that on their website it says it costs $1,395. This makes me suspicious.......

OK. I did the England Refresher course, got selected for their Flex program and did that too. Then I did their 3 day orientation. Then I was put on a truck with a Phase 1 trainer for 34 days, and about 17, 000 miles. They require a minimum of 15, 000 miles and a minimum of 30 days. Because of the holidays of Christmas and New Years I had to go 34 days. After that, there is a 3 day Phase 2 Upgrade I had to go through. I did 10 Modules in Phase 1, and there are more Modules to complete in Phase 2. Anyway, then I waited around in a hotel for a while for a Phase 2 trainer. I was finally assigned one, but their truck was in the shop and because of that it took some time to get going. After I finally got going with the new trainer, there were numerous problems I will not go into. I finally got fed up and quit after about 2 weeks with the Phase 2 trainer.
I do not recommend C. R. England. It has been an expensive waste of time for me trying to get something going with them.
The only way to make money with them is to be a trainer, by the way. What they want you to do is lease a truck from them and immediately take on a Phase 2 student. Being a team is the only way you can get the necessary miles to pay for the truck. If one tries to go solo, they will starve I think. -
By the way, though my refresher course was supposed to be fee free, there was a $100 (preferably cash) non-refundable administration fee they charge up front when you get there.
