I just bought a 95 Freightliner FLD120.. It has a 6cyl Cat and all I can find out about it is it says 355HP.. Im totaly in the dark about Cats What Engine is this? I know it has a new head and new Jakes a new starter and a new EatonFuller 10spd trans.. It is a sleeper cab.. The cab is in good shape but the paint is faded out but I got it for $1500 from the owners widow so I figured I couldn't go wrong but What is it really worth?

Without the first three digits of the engine serial number, it's kinda hard to tell you anything about this engine. I'm going to guess and say the serial number starts with 5EK----- This would be the 3406E 14.6L engine. If this is what you have it's a reliable engine, but you won't be able to uprate the power above 410 hp in it's present configuration. It was originally built with aluminum pistons. These engines were built to 550 hp, but used different internal parts to do it than what you have.

It is a 5EK serial number.. I thought it was kinda old too but I was just considering all the new parts.. the OD shows 767,829 and the speedo works but who knows with an old truck..could have been replaced.. Thanks for the info Mr.Haney

5EK is a good platform. Too bad it's the 355hp rating, but still a good engine. I had one in a '94 Pete, (of course it was a 475/1750) but it did a great job for me.

I put a load of logs behind it this morning and hauled them about 15 miles across the mountain to the mill and I noticed it doesn't smoke at all..not even when you lug it...but I did notice some vibration in the carriage bearing and one of the air bags on the front axle for the air ride leaks..Other than that it seems to be a solid truck..Thanks for the info!
