I am 32, and have not always been the best worker. I was married before and got divorced because I was too much of a dreamer. I wanted and attempted to start a recording studio. FAIL.

I went to counseling and found out I have a "Loser Complex." I never knew my dad, as he went to prison before I was born for murder, because he was lazy and a thief, and killed someone who caught him trying to break in TO A CHURCH TREASURY (I kid you not). I didn't want to be like him, but always had poor self esteem. I guess I turned out pretty lazy.

Anyway, I want to do better, but I have not been able to keep a job really. I got remarried in 2008, and started working in Collections at Wells Fargo. I was horrible at that, and so I lost my job there. I couldn't find another job ANYWHERE. I moved us in with my mom because we couldn't pay the rent, and now my mom moved into my grandfather's house because he died recently.

I did start working again, and have been doing recording engineering for this guy here in town who owns a music store. Probably been doing this 6 months. So, I can use that as a reference, but nothing else really. I really need to become a trucker, because this stuff isn't paying much, and I want to take care of my family. I think trucking would be good for me, but do I have ANY chance of getting a decent job with this in my past?

trucking will NOT BE GOOD for you......you don't know what you want to do at your age.....you want money, but you do not want to work for it..in trucking you will be up against many things, and like many of your past jobs you will drop out...heck, you may drop out of school when you get to hear what it is like out there. for the hours you will put in as a trucker, you will NOT be making much either.

you would be "dreaming" of things as a truck driver, and i can assure you the real facts about trucking will squash that real quick.

good luck to you in doing something else.

Buddy.....we hear sob stories every day about this tragedy and that tragedy that has befallen people. Don't tell anyone else your story. To some it might sound sad...........here on this forum..........it will sound funny.

If you are serious with this post, then yes. You can become a truck driver and no one will really look at the things you mentioned. They won't matter.
A clean criminal record search and a clean driving record are all you need to be a good upfront candidate for driving.

As the post above mentions, you will work for your money,so if you can/are willing.........then it's all you.

With clean records, anything that is in the past will stay just where it is.........in the past. No one in trucking will care.

Keep in mind that the trucking industry is not easy. Long hours, odd hours, PITA shippers, receivers, dispatchers, etc. Browse the forum and read some threads.

I do know what I want to do - I want to be a trucker. Maybe that wasn't clear enough in my post. I want to do better. I do want to work for it. I didn't before. I was lazy. I am ready to work now. I just want to know if, with my history, I can actually GET the job.

I have money and am ready to pay for schooling. I just don't want to pay for schooling if no one will hire me afterwards.

I am very serious. It's just that in my reading I see that some of these companies want a verifiable work history for like 5 or 10 years or whatever. If that is true, I would just get laughed at.

    #1 RULE IN TRUCKING..........NO WHINNING.

Since you have already broken that rule,as every other driver has done............you will fit in just fine.

    Go get your license.

OK, on the work history aspect, officially, you need a 10 year work history. Officially, the company you are applying to needs to verify the last 3 years. Gaps need to be explained. A 21 year old will not have a 10 year history. Some companies will verify back 5 years, but in reality, trying to verify a previous employee from 9 years ago is difficult.

Don't think trucking will be your saving grace either. Just why do you want to get into trucking ?

A couple reasons I guess... I like traveling, and would love to go further out west. Also, I could make a pretty good living at it, which would be good for my family. And also, I don't know that I have a whole lot of other options that would put me on the road to making money as soon as this would. The class is 8 weeks long, so after that I could potentially be making money.

Again, the 10 year work history thing will be a problem, unless I just make up a bunch of stuff... which I'm not willing to do. The 3 years may be a little easier, as they could verify the last 6 months by simply calling my boss, but other than that I guess I could explain the gap with just no luck finding work. But would that be a suitable explanation?

liking to travel in your car IS NOT the same as driving a truck...its a JOB...you will have MANY inconveniences and you admitted to being lazy, you WILL NOT put up with life on the road...you WILL NEED to do things that a self proclaimed "lazy person" will NOT tolerate...

plus YOU SAID, you never been the best worker.....i see service failures in your future as a driver....and unemployment.

you are looking for "salvation" and trucking is NOT your answer...

you would be better off at a job at a place near your home.

hey, do as you wish, you WILL BE HERE in a few weeks saying how you cannot find a job or how much you hate it...

    seen it all before.....
