I've recently discovered this Choice program and I wonder if its all that they say it is.
Whats the average per mile you all are seeing now? Is the freight plentiful? How much are you guys grossing per month? Thanks in advance! -
I'm on it but I just started. like just today. but i'm sitting here looking at the board and it pays pretty well but I will tell you the vast majority of it is short runs 150 to 400mi. many of the short 150mi loads pay between $2 and $3/mi to the truck. I was looking at a series of 50mi loads that were almost $5/mi. most the 400+ mi loads seem to be around the $1.50 -$2/mi mark. but it's like anything you got to watch the best paying load cause they go where nothing comes out of.

Thanks! Keep us posted how its going for you. Short runs can be a pain, especially if you have to wait to be loaded and unloaded. Does it show on the load board if those short runs are drop and hook?
Could you do 3 of those 150milers per day at $2 to $3 a pop? That would be good huh? -
yes the board shows if they are live loads, preloaded trailers or drop trailers. if live loads it also give you the average load time for that perticular place. the pumpkin like you to use 50mph average for load planning so that's 550mi a day max but I think you know what they can do with that. as a owner op you have to log no more then 65mph average so you could do 2 or 3, mabey even four if they are all preloads and drop trl. but that may be pushing it. they have alot of big customers that are all drop and hook.
i've always been long haul myself. I'm not a fan of these short runs but we will see what happens. I don't mind a 700mi or 1000mi load. I just hate loading, running and unload in the same day -
The short runs were the money shots when I was with SNI, but the big problem was finding empty trailers and the mileage associated with the search. Take for example the Allentown to Tunkhannock, PA rounds I stumbled on in my time there. I would grabbed preloaded Chep pallets out of Allentown and run them up to Tunkhannock for a drop load. All was good, but when I dropped up there the Chep plant and P&G wouldn't release any empty trailers and SNI knew this. But SNI always gave me orders to try both places...this wastes time. Then the box planners have to spend time searching for a trailer or sending you after one. If I was heading back to Allentown for another load they would send me all over Scranton/Wilkes Barre looking for a trailer. This added 20-30 extra miles to the round that I was paid for. After a while this just wasn't worth the hassle. Once you get to know the system its easy to see the trends, but its also easy to see where SNI is screwing the Choice program.

I know that much, nothing different from my landstar days.
this morning I had a nice paying indy to ownesboro, ky and a reload right away (before 4pm) in owesboro going home to houston. but I'm sitting here in Indy with no trailer and wa flat out told there is no trailers around indo so I know if I booked that round I would very likely NOT be able to reload before 4 after an extensive trailer search.
i'm actually begining to really worry I may get stuck in Indy all weekend
