I guess so. When we started to run S/S the state told us with gasoline trucks we could not have them on the drive axles. I believe that because no where did I see any company running them on the drives. We only had them on our 4 axle trailers.

ive been talking with Bruce Oakley recruiters and am thinking of going over there to pull a hopper and im needing
to loose a little weight on my W9 to be light enough for them and SS's was an idea.....does anyone know
how much diffrence exactly there is between a set of them and a 8 alluminum 24.5 with lo pro rubber? -
The maximum savings comes from changing from duals with STEEL wheels, to wide base singles on lightweight aluminum, and that's how most manufacturers arrive at the 1000-1400 pound weight savings for tractor and trailer conversion.
Real world savings CAN amount to from 180 pounds up to 350 pounds per axle.
Should you make the move, consider the 2" offset aluminum wheel option to restore track width, and check with the wheel manufacturer to assure your wheel bearings are up to the task... -
I have a tire book here (Bridgestone) the differance between the wide base singles and duals is about 75 pounds per wheel end. So about 300# in weight savings just in the rubber. Dont know the differance in wheel weight. They will throw your speedo off they are 2" shorter.
How much weight you tring to loose?
Found the differance in wheel weight you will save aabout 50# per wheel end so another 200#. Only about 500# total.!??!Last edited: Apr 9, 2011

thay want your tractor to weight in at 17.5 or less with 1/2 fuel....i weighed mine other day
it weighed 19 with full of fuel....i have a step box on the side now for my straps and bungees weights
probly around 200 or so....dont have to weight 17.5 just have to be able to haul 52k in box....i figure
if i ran at 1/2 or less on fuel and did the SS's lost the box I should be in good shape....
I have 2 150 gallon fuel tanks so loose 150 gallons of fuel ill drop around 1k pounds if 7 pounds per gallon
is a close # of weight for diesel fuel....may not even need to do the SS swop -
Doesn't Oakley pay mileage?

I would suggest that if your going to do that all the time put valves on the tank without the guage and shut it off and drain it. When your running half tanks your still carring a those extra gallons that you cant draw out plus in the winter you have less condesation build up if you can top the 1 tank off.

I think as long as you can get close is what matters....
only reason im considering oakley and leaving what im doing is i dont have to own my own trailer there for the
same rate im getting here and they have these guys in my area on a kinda dedicated deal that gets me home
almost everyday, maye sleep in truck a nite or 2 a week and be home on wekends which i am now....
main turnon is the trailer deal and get more miles and no more buying tires for them dadblame spread axles -
thats what im planning on doing is shutting passenger tank off and running drivers tank....im going to
go show them my truck...if its older than 5 years old thy have to inspect it and ok it.....if it passes their inspection
and we weight it im goin to tell them the box is coming off and if they still think im too heavy im going
to throw the SS idea at them and see if that gets me on if not o well just stick to the flatbedding -
