    Hi,,,,,

I have a ?.My Husband been driving for almost 8 years OTR.He switched companys about 4 mos ago and likes them.Well 2 weeks ago while on hometime he had a bad asthma attack because he had a new med,not his usual and it did not work for him.He stayed in the hosp.for about 3 days, got clearded to return to work.He called Disp and was told he had to talk to safety, wich he did and thats when the problems started.:biggrin_25510:
Safety told him on the 1 st day,,,he needs to see another Dr,his reg pcp and get cleared, then he will have to go and redue a DOT pys.He went to his Dr. got cleared by him,,,faxed note to safety and several hrs later was told he needed go back and have the DR. write on the release slip that he is,,,"""",cleared with no restricktions or limitations""",,,so he went back next day and got this done,,,,,,,faxed it to safety,,,,,and was told they will call him,,,,,,then next day ,when he got a call from safety,he was told to go to DOT for a pys,and call safety right after.Hubby went passed all but the treadmill portion by 1 point, everything else was fine.He called safety and was told they will call him back,(no call back yet)but he did get a call from disp,,,,,,they wanted him to clean out his truck tonite, because the truck is not making money just sitting there and was told as soon as safety clears him(another DOT pys)they would put him in another truck.I'm worried that they will just let him go,which will make it hard for us.He has no problems driving safe,or doing his job.He has no other med cond.other then Asthma.Anybody else had issues with this???

Safe driving to all of you.

When they told him to clear out his truck that was a big message right there, plus all the other games they played. I think it's time to move on. Sorry.

Thanks Beer Runner,,,,I Know what you mean.as of right now i'm still jumping thru hoops for them and have another phy. scheduled for tom.hopefully i will pass it this time like all the other times before. The Safety Dept for the company says it is company policy when in hospital
or off the truck awhile I have to take the HPE and Dot physical. They have yet to tell or show me the regulation. No doctor wants to sign my short term disability claim form. I am cleared for work by all the doctors for normal work. My hold up is the company safety department and their requirements. Still employed, just can't get back in truck. I am a 50% disabled vet with service connected asthma and have held a CDL class A for 8 years with no problems from any of my prior trucking companies. This is frustrating to be employed and not making money.

Guess Hubby had to vent a lil,,,,,hope he'll pass phy tom. and be able to get on a truck.I dont like the disrespect you Drivers get at times, but it is what it is.

Safe driving to all of you,,,,,,

:biggrin_25521: Well Hubby did not pass threadmill test again,,,so he got terminated.
We hope to find a company that does not have the same regs as this one. In 8 yrs he never failed a D.O.T.physical.

His heart rate was to high for his age,,,,,,,,,,,guess for the few cents per mile you better be in top shape and not old,so you can pass the complete HPE fitness test.

safe driving to all of you

These are the stories that bother me the most. When people who live in a box for weeks on end for #### pay get dumped on.
Someone wants to drive and a little asthma gets them sent up the river.

I say get the meds changed and go look for another job. When the new employer asks why your hubby was let go,blame it on the meds and state that problem has been resolved and that he's fit for duty.

Other than the turds he worked for.......he's employable.

    ORT WIFE Thanks this.

Yes,,,he is applying as we "speak". And hopefully he finds a GOOD company, even tho we all know that will be hard.
It makes me mad too,how they don't care about the Drivers, who get the loads there on time in any kind of weather,on holidays(giving up familiy time),even when sick, disreguarding when you want home time, just sooooooooooo they can turn around and hide behind "rules":biggrin_25510:

I understand they want and should have good and safe drivers,,,,BUT then also pay them better and be realistic.Everybody is freaking out over those new CAS2010/health changes, but i think they are way unfair and a lot of drivers going to lose there jobs.I see a lot of law suits in the future.
In my opinion,,alllllllll drivers, incl. 4 wheelers could cause accidents because of health reasons,,a lot of Police officers,Emt's also are overweight and may have health issues because of this but they are "protected"and don't really have to worry about there jobs,,,,,,,,,,,,what needs to happen is,,,pay the drivers better so they can afford to buy healthier food, don't put them under so much stress, pay for sick days,so they can cure any illnesses and see a DR.All they due now is punish a driver for things he/she may not able to control. They worry about crashes???/,,,,,,,well let the drivers decide when they need to sleep/rest,,,,lay off they calcom demanding the loads get there anyway nessesary,,or the driver has to listen to attidude or just dont get many miles.I'm not a driver ,but i see what hubby goes thru and read the same on here from many other drivers.I know he could get another line of work, that should be his choice and not because of some rules.Ok i sayed enough,,lol,,,,it will not be a perfect world ever,so we due the best we can.

Safe driving to all of you,,,,

Might I suggest you look around for companies without a treadmill test, I never had to go through any stupid hoops at either Werner or Superservice, thats just nuts. If they change policy and retested all their old drivers there are ALOT of drivers that won't pass some of these tests

Thanks,,,yes he is doing this, but he is afraid it will send up a red flag if he asks about threadmill test. The regular D.O.T. phisical does not reguiere a threadmill test,,,but companys can i guess. He did pass it in sep and had to retake it because he got sick.Yes alot of driver will have poss. trouble with this. The lady from safety even told the tech at clinic what to test frist,,,,,,,weights,,,climing a ladder,,,lift weights over head...all of this he had to do several time(no problems) THEN he had to do the threadmill test.I'm thinking after all this unless you are in top shape, many would have trouble being below there "safe" heart rate??????:biggrin_25513:

    you all be safe
