I have applied to USX. One thing to consider on the sliding scale, as a solo driver, most of the load should be in the 600mi range or less I am guessing. That will put your average more up in the 31-32 range I would expect. As far as autos go, they are getting more and more manuals. It seems to me that USX just has newer equipment on average than the pumpkin trucks, and that means less chance for breakdown, and that means more $$ because you don't make anything if your stuck in a hotel waiting for truck to be repaired, been there, done that!
Good luck to you whatever you do.
Start USX on 03/07/11 ??

A little research will show that schneider drivers make more money.
And schneiders safety record is twice as good as USX.......... -
I tried to get on with Schneider as well, they do have alot of options. My problem is I have been off the road for 2.5 yrs, that leaves me at the 6mo experience within the last 3 yrs. Schneider wanted more recent. USX will take that, so I will get some experience here again, and see how it goes.

At least you know enough to get it done before you go to orientation. Best of luck.

I am not sure if this is the proper place to ask. In fact, I am not quite sure how to phrase the questions.
Where are the busiest or high volume freight lanes for US Xpress? What are the chances of a new hire school grad getting assigned a manual transmission tractor instead of an automatic ? -
I would go with USX in a hearbeat if I knew 100% that I would be driving a manual. but most likely a solo OTR would be auto.
Maybe teams have a better chance? -
USX is VERY likely going to give you a manual if that is what you want. Driving an Auto is pretty sweet and lots of the old hands at USX do not want to give them up. Unless they are driving a Volvo, right now USX is not making them switch When we upgraded, the frst words out of Ken's mouth was "I hope you like a 10 speed" (by the way, we do)Mr.V Thanks this.
