Mine was this fine 79 White Road Commander. 290 Cummins, 9-speed, no P/S or A/C and for some reason, a single 150 gallon fuel tank on the driver's side. I spent a lot of time stopping for fuel......

WOW, that's pretty much the same truck I started with! Only mine had yellow and green stripes that ran down the side. It was with a company out of Michigan called TransAmerican.

In 1973, Dad helped me buy a 1970 cab-over Kenworth w/ sleeper. I was 20 years old, went to hauling produce that summer. Truck had a 903 Cummins, which was a V-8 style engine, 13 speed over-drive, 4.88 rears. No power steering, sometimes A/C, and torsion bar suspension. That system had no springs, no air bags, just 2 long rods that twisted, was a weird set-up.Fast truck back then. I remember buying an 8 track tape player as they just came out,and CB's were just getting popular. What a long strange trip it was !

This carrier was based out of Atlanta, but they had three other trucks just like this one that they bought from a leasing company. Who knows - your truck might have come out of the same fleet. This was 82'-'83 time frame.

My first truck was a Ford "D" series 17 ton straight truck with a V8 Perkins Diesel which refused to start most mornings. It stood 15' high and taught me to look up everywhere I went. Low clearance is rife in the UK.
My first articulated vehicle was an ERF "B" series, pulling a 40' deck, hauling mostly steel pipe.
My first Canadian truck was a Volvo VN660, hauling produce between California and Alberta. -
Drove a ROAD COMMANDER II Had the PORTABLE 8 track that sat up on the DASH , 2 cheap speakers and the power cord plugged into the lighter outlet

Mine was a 64 Emeryville 220 cummins 10 speed, I ran recaps on the steering axle ( didn't know any better) hauled 70k of wheat from Amarillo Tx to Houston Tx twice a week. Paid $320 per trip, wouldn't drive it to the Dairy Queen today but thought I was in tall cotton back then. 1973

In 1974, I started with a 1964 International Emeryville, R96 10 speed(cable shift), Hendrickson extended leaf suspension, 250 Cummins,(no turbo, lots of black smoke), Budd wheels and a Kaiser roofmount a/c! No power steering, (man it needed it), but a great truck. I wish I'd never have sold it.

My first truck is a 2007 Volvo VN780 with the auto.....absolutely love it! We just picked it up in Nebraska and drove it back to Cali....very sweet truck and extremely comfortable.
