This ought to be an interesting thread.

Sounds like "Sarge" runs his truck the way I did. I never idled; had window screens and a bunk warmer. Kept my foot in check. Fuel bonus every quarter > usually $1K gross; basically a free week's pay.

Holy crap! 32,000# empty? I was ~27,500#, back in the days of the FLD. Those Cascadias must be really heavy. Though, they're a way nicer truck than the Century/Columbia (what a joke those are).

The big advantage to flat over van, is time at the shipper/consignee. It's whole lot quicker to pop a coil on/off versus 26 pallets that have to be fetched from wherever in the warehouse. Obviously, not always a single coil load. I almost always hauled coils, sheets, and bars. About the only time I loaded lumber was if I delivered out in the boonies. I got to where I could secure and tarp any load under an hour. Just do it the exact same way every time to become proficient at it. As with anything, there's a method to the madness.

I showered every day there. I usually waited until after I reloaded. I found that if I was the first one in line at the consignee (always tried to sleep there), I could reload and be showering by noon-ish, which is a non-peak time at the truckstop. I'm still doing the same, while pulling a van.

Things there have changed a lot over the years. Even so, I wish I were still there. I'd love to get on with the reefer division.

Dang, NoTarps, momma never taught you to turn the socks inside out for any extra day's wear? Hehehe.... Sarge, appreciate your postings, and straight forward advice, gonna make a copy of your list---beats my notes made from student to student on what I will & will not tolerate. You have my utmost respect, we teach, not train, and hopefully put into their heads they are held to a higher standard than most, we are Maverick, and don't tolerate anything less in everything we do.

Yep "M-11 battletanks" heavy DEF tank, APU, extra batteries, blah blah blah

Had the milk crates for the columbia trainer truck i was assigned and never got warm enuf for me to use them b4 i was assigned to the M-11. i just left them in the truck for the next driver assigned to it.

Yep, yep, and Yep re overniting at customers if possible, pallet loads vs single coils, etc.

and btw, temperature control (reefer division) is still hiring so give them a call if you're interested.

Exactly...Give them the tools they need to succeed. What they build with those tools once they get out of the trainer truck is up to them. My students are probably dreaming of MPG by the end of the first day in the truck with me but like i tell them, if they want to drive down the road right up against the governor, they can ruin their own fuel bonus, not mine.

At 57, i make my pu(s) and dels, and "get miles" and fuel bonus checks as well. Also at a slower cruising speed, even after 11 hours of driving, i'm not frustrated, frazzled, worn down or out, whatever. Just have to wait for my ten to be over and then do it all over again.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you are a driving "instructor" for the glass division correct? If so, since beginning this thread, i've had a lot of pms with questions about the glass division to which i've replied, "i think dolly lama is a trainer for the glass division so perhaps your ? would be better answered by her?"

They must've a pu near the derby or something that goes west because i've seen quite a few on that road as well. As far as right or wrong, (Unlike at least one driver at maverick)lol, If the name on the door of the truck reads "Maverick", it is the same company, be it sand, tc, flatbed, glass, or even ic, just a different division.

I'm not completely sure but I think I saw a Maverick truck pullin a pneumatic trailer going through San Antonio last week. I didn't get a good look though so it might not have been.

You mean the Sand division? They're local runnin in the natural gas fields around little rock. Not sure if they've branched out as far as to run to San Antonio tho.
