this is exactly correct; the terminal manager has the hiring/firing authority for his/her local drivers. for regional work, i'd talk to both your local terminal manager and somebody in the head office. call the head of operations in missoula and ask...

Yeah, what they said, I don't think I would like this local stuff, Phx. Gets to hot in the summer for me to be moving furniture, regional wouldn't be to bad but a run to Conover always makes mama happy on pay day:yes2557::yes2557::biggrin_25523:

actually, for local, and reginal, they require you to have 1 year in with the company, however, some drivers have been able to prove them selfs to the company, and when they asked for local they were able to get it... others were givin the position and then had it taken away, others didnt like it.... depends where you are...
running local/reg out of Richmond is a joke in its self... the term mang does not have his head on straight, and you will NOT make a lot more running there..the stress of the load planning will break you, if you dont kill him first! trust me i know! i been here 3 years and have put up with his not so smart planning..but if you want to take the chance and the pay cut, go for it...
running local out of NJ will never ever happen, those workers up theire are contracted in!, they arnt leaving, and are the highst paied employees in the entire company ( drivers ) running reg/short-line out of sayreville, can and does in fact pay well.... yeah going into nyc boston and other small towns is an every day event... putting the truck down the countried oldst roads will sometimes make you want to get out and walk away from the right then and there.. when i started with watkins 3 years ago, i was put right on short line, i ran all the north eastern states, including nyc...when working up there, you dont use a gps, or listen to the radio, all 100% focus is put to looking out the windows making sure ur not gonna run people cars poles or anything els over...
as for y u were not " qualified " is beyond me.... all companies have schools they deal with and others they refuse to for any amount of reasons... maybe they had nothing but bad luck with people from the school you went to, and decided that school is not worth their time... it could be anything really... what was the out come of you last call to them?

I do regional/local runs. I started 6 weeks after getting out of orientation. Get weekends off at home.. 1-3 days depending how loads work out.

I also drive a red truck! Not white or brown..

I just called local dispatch and they had me doing regional/local runs a couple days later. I never talked to an Operations nor Terminal manager.

Mind you.. everyone else here is posting about East Coast ltl runs, and I only run Montana->Alberta ltl runs. Apparently, they don't have as many applicants here as they do for the East Coast jobs, so things are handled a bit differently.
