Writing Apps for SmartPhones?

I was reading Katey's thread about Android apps and it reminded of one of my to-do tasks that I haven't got done yet but I didn't want to hi-jack her thread. Is anyone familiar with the procedure for writing an app? I have just enough knowledge to do my own website and make a page sing and dance but definitely am not a programmer or techie. Are there folks that would write an app for $$ ? I have a couple ideas for very useful applications for niche areas of trucking but don't have the know-how to get it done. Maybe I could learn by the year 2025 but I don't have that kind of time.

Anybody know a contact or company to get the ball rolling?
