here is a question for all of you "gear-heads". I just bought a truck and it is sitting by the curb at my house.( yeah yeah) Anyway, It is 450hp, instead of 500 hp. isx 13 spd 3.55 rear. is it worth the time to bring the hp to 500hp? this upgrade would not cost me anything, will be done free for me by the dealer.

518k miles. Dealer told me that it is 500hp at the time of my 1st inquire. Today, while signing the papers, it is actually 450hp and not the 500hp. What is the diff. in torque between the 500hp and 450hp?

all it takes is a reflash, just resets the computer, if the engine is in good shape , shouldnt hurt a thing

I'd get it turned up if it were me. It's not like the engine is going to make the extra 50hp all the time, only when your right foot asks for it.

That extra 50 ponies will make climing up hills a lot less aggrevating when you haul heavy.

i've seen it done to higher mileage engines before.

and the engines usually blew up within a few months.

hp won't get you up the hill any faster, torque is what does the work. find out what the torque is now and what it will be after the re-flash.

doubt it would make a big enough difference to take a chance on exploding and engine.

wel, I have gotten one year ntp premium warranty. So, if it explodes that would just be a plus for me, I might get the new engine.

Horsepower DOES get you up hills quicker. Torque gets you moving and is mainly at low speeds. Horsepower keeps you moving at higher RPMs. That said you must learn to use extra power. 500 is nothing much to worry about if engine was designed for it. Lot of guys on here over 700 and getting good mileage if they can keep foot off floor. Better drivers can make big power make them money.
