I'm going to school for trucking but they need to do test on me, like blood pressure test, but I'm a tad high on it, it's like 140/100, is this good? Or should I lower it before attending the school?
I'm 22, 5"6 and 180 lbs, will losing weight help?

yeah lose some weight and watch your diet......I believe 140/100 is getting near the area where they start making comments like a 1 year med card......but at 5'6'' you should probably be weighing more like 150 I would think

I think you need to test below 140/90 to receive a medical card which is required for a CDL. You should have a primary care physician who will advise you about diet and exercise, and prescribe pills if necessary. At your current blood pressure you may be unemployable as a driver.

Cutting your salt intake will also help bring down your BP.

Like Lilbit said.

I agree with what what everyone said. Plus the exercise will help to. I started walking up and down my stairs like six or seven times and watching what I eat and drinkin clear "diet" soda will also help. I went from a 180 somethin to like 130 somethin in a week that and i was put on a blood pressure med as well. The little things help. And I also read try not to drink soda before your actual blood pressure test, it makes your test read a little higher if I rememeber reading it right.

Actually it is very hard to make a determination about BP w/one reading because it does fluctuate--a good DR(preferably cardiologist)can point you in right direction--but usually wants to take readings over time(weekly etc.) now mind you I am NOT talking about DOT physicals I AM talking about your life!
Having said that 140/100 is high--140/90 or below is what the DOT wants but I can tell you from experience that--there are quite a few things that could have affected your blood pressure@ the time of the test. I am in no way implying I know you or your situation--but for instance--maybe you really want/need this job and all thats holding up your hiring is your physical--amazing how a little stress will elevate your blood pressure--or maybe you smoke?--it takes at least 30minutes after a cigarette for your arteries relax--thus allowing your BP to return to more normal levels
I could go on and on--BUT the important thing is to have regular testing(now that it has tested high)and fin out if you are hypertensive or if this was an anomoly.
That way you can start taking care of the situation!!
Just my $.02rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
as to BP i am on a med and i keep a daily log on my computer with the time i took it if i ate/what i ate and or what activity i did recently.... works cause i email it to him once a month while traveling. it helps him to know if things need to be changed.

See your Dr and get on some meds. As long as you keep it under control and get your B/P down to what is required by the dot phyicial. you would get a 1 year medical card. Depending on the company policies you are going to drive for, they may have different standards, ask the questions on qualifications.

Dump the caffeine, especially soft drinks, energy drinks, etc.
