You want the job, you'd be surprised what hoops you will jump thru.....especially if required by law.
They want 5 years of tax returns before I can start working for them !?!?!?!

Your SSN? (they already have that when you apply for the job)
Your work history? (Federal Law MANDATES you provide a 10 year work history)
anything else that you haven't already given them?
I didn't think so. -
Don't want the job?
Well......ok, tell them to pound-sand. -

The only thing you will be giving them that they don't already have is your income. It is up to each carrier as to how they want to verify your past employment. All time for 10 years must be accounted for, even if you were unemployed. Federal law requires that they verify at least the last 3 years employment. It is up to the carrier whether they wish to verify a longer time period. It is also up to the carrier to decide how they will verify that information. It seems to me that if you want the job you will need to give them what they want unless you can convince them to verify your employment in a different manner.
Big John Thanks this. -
Wow, if that bothers you don't apply for a TWIC or FAST card. DHS and the RCMP go into much more detail.
rich_t Thanks this. -
I was self-employed and had to provide the same without a problem...They could look at them all they want, not that I think they would have spent more than a few seconds making sure they had the years they needed...It's not like there's anything on them they could use against you...

I had self-employment time and had my own business before getting my CDL. I had no issue providing the tax returns to prove what I had done during that time. It provides the proof of your employment when you have been self-employed. You ever want to get a loan, you're gonna need that too. It's the only way to actually verify self-employment.
And if you have been self-employed, you need to hold onto those tax records longer than if you were getting a paycheck. I think the time frame for that is 7 years rather than three. -
However, I have copies of all my returns.Big Don and rocknroll nik Thank this.
