I drove by this accident in the other direction, about 15 minutes prior to him being hit. I warned the other drivers about him sitting up there on the shoulder. Next thing I know the other side was swarming with Emergency veichles headed in that direction. Could actualy hear the sound of the engine of one EMS over their siren.
Here's the link to our local tv news about it: http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S104607.shtml?cat=1

I don't see why it's hard to move over when someone on the side of the road.

I hope the trooper is ok and they catch the driver of the truck that did it. THis also brings up a problem that has been around for many years why was he on the road side of his car and not on the grass side with the vehicle between him and the road or away from the highway. This has allways been a pet peeve of mine if you are pulling some on eover for toutine stop get them to an off ramp or a safe place away from the road to stop them and not on the shoulder it is not for parkin it is for break down only as a last resort. Just like in this case some one not watching there surroundings and not following the un written rules of the road always move left when some thing on the shoulder. I understand its the law in that state but it is also an unwritten law of all truck drivers at least the old one i've been around that you move over or slow down if you can't move over to give them room.

If he drifted into the shoulder lane wouldnt matter how fast he was going. anyway drifting towards something you are trying to avoid sounds like a new driver doesnt it?
