Driver Managers are paid based on how much there drivers make ie miles driven. There on time performance fuel usage things like that as well as a small salary

i am usually a positive person. but i really cant think of much good to say about my time at werner. my recruiters lied at a level that should be criminal... my SDM, student driver manager, was amazing!! but pretty much everything else was rotten. Ok wait I did receive a brand new truck.. it was perfect...I worked 6 weeks solo and 2 1/2 brutal months training.. my W-2 states I made $4765. Yes the math means I average about $250 a week, at working 70 hours a week.. $3.50 an hour!!
I would tell u the drama stories or the ones where I was forced to sit and wait for days at a time, but we all know those.
The bottom line is that all I am saying is all of TRUCKING when u are new.
I was a great driver, never an issue, never late, never bothered my dispatch, drove in Jersey city, Montreal, chicago,LA, Houston, all thru the Rockies, Maine, Boston... You name it, all with little or no issues.
They treated me well I think, as well as it gets. BUT you are EXTREMELY expendable, EXTREMELY...there are worse companies I am sure. Its the job.... make sure ur willing to do all this and make no money...then after 2 years or so, it will get better...I went back to my line of work and I am making...well a lot LOT more and home every night...off ever other weekend...good luck to all...

I jumped into this job...way too fast. I spent about $9,000 dollars getting my lic. I went thru NTTS in syracuse NY. Did the five week course, cost $6,256 plus I stayed at a local hotel and food. The school is nothing to brag about, except they had enough yard trucks to practice with. I had to pay cash upfront to go 5 weeks. It was just enough time to be ok at driving. I practiced hard every day.
U will make very very little money ur first two years, u will experience many frustrating and disgusting and maybe dangerous situations...
every weekend or evening the dispatchers ignore u and give u ridiculos NO help. Funny thing is I really loved the driving! but i was working for about $3.50 an hour...Even if u tripled that it doesnt pay... Im glad I did it and had the experience, now im glad I got lucky and have a good job at home again.
No student company is going to be great at the start...werner had its good and bads... but truly they dont care one tiny bit about you... and maybe rightfully so?? I am sure from their side they get a lot of crap from drivers. Go to a real truck stop one day and watch them come and go... some real poor individuals out there...
    good luck to all..

Get 6 months in and then look for a good job like ABF.

6 weeks or 6 months? Either one is no where near enough seat time to be a trainer. :biggrin_25512:

No offense but does it matter? Neither are enough to train anyone (at least in the real world). It's kinda like watching a kid who just got the training wheels of his bike trying to teach another kid how to ride a bike. :biggrin_25524:

While I have worked at Werner for 10 years I'm not an expert, but let me correct a couple mistakes you made in your post.

When splitting or swapping a load , regardless of when it is delivered to its final location, you are paid for it in the week you split/swap it in. Werner has a huge Pony Express operation (they call it NetOps: driver a meets driver b apx 250 miles away, or drops load at established yard and gets another load) and when you split a load you should receive a message via QualComm saying "Trip Envelope for trip blahblah not required" which basically means the trip has been entered into the system for your portion of it as delivered.

If swapping, the trip you get from other driver will pay YOU in the week you deliver it. The trip you gave to him will pay you in the week you deliverd it to the other driver.

Day dispatchers (or Fleet Manager) get paid a salary plus bonuses. Bonuses include: driver on time delivery, driver safety, getting a driver home on time, dead head mileage (the less the better), etc. You get the idea.

Night dispatchers and weekend dispatchers get paid an hourly or salary rate, usually without any bonus pay because they have no interest in whether you get home on time or sit all day. Their number one priority is the load and making sure it is delivered and/or picked up on time.

No offense taken, because we both agree that neither one is not enough experiance to be an effective trainer.

ok I understand that, But you mention "net ops" their pay schedule is different that the "48 state fleet" , regional fleets, dedicated fleets,
the was they pay is different. I know how the pay works for 48 and regional pay works but what i said orig, is true. The fleet I am in pays me by what i run in the week with no paper work needed. the long and short is if your in a divison ask how your paid for splits/ swaps that you have done. ask when they are paid. check your pay stubs if its not there call pay rol or you dm, fleet supr.
been playing this game starting my 11th year. thats all this is
