I get what you're saying and thank you for being honest..

It's very simple here - mileage for driving and hourly for everything else while running line-haul..

If I'm fueling the truck I'm paid to the minute, if I'm dropping/hooking I'm paid to the minute, if I'm sitting in traffic I'm paid hourly to the minute since I'm not making mileage, if I have to spend a night away from home I'm in a company paid hotel, and if I falsified anything I would risk losing that job so I would not do it as a matter of common sense right??

Coming from a union backround i was disapointed with my experience. Union employees are nothing but a bunch of overpaid cry babys and when they dont get there way they go on strike!! What ever happened to just going to work and getting the job done!

$28-32M ? Millions per year ? $ per mile? I'd love to make that that much

You get that anywhere.. We're non-union but we have those drivers as well - for the most part I really like my co-workers though and they do what they need to do in order to get the job done. I'm sure it's the same way at a UPS company..

how do you track sitting in traffic, versus driving, and fueling time, if you get paid how you described?

It's all on our line-haul pay sheets.. We have punch clocks at the terminals and we get paid for that time.

Running night line-haul last year here's how it went... Get my hooks and punch the clock - go hook the set and punch again when I was done about 20 or 30 minutes later. I was paid to the minute for that time and hit mileage once I punched off. Drive..haha.. Punch in when I got to the terminal I was running - drop the set and pouch off - punch on Kronos and go work the dock - punch off Kronos and punch the pay sheet to hook - punch off when done and drive.. Drive for a little then sit in DC traffic..haha.. Once I sat in traffic for one hour I could write the time in on the pay sheet and I was paid - falsify that time and you're done.. Get moving and make it back - punch the clock - drop set and fuel - punch off when done and repeat the next night..haha..

When on the road or at a meet/turn we write in the time on the pay sheet and are paid accordingly - falsify it and you're done.. That's how we get paid as I described.. Not a bad way to make 87K right..

If you have a start time you just swipe on the clock and get paid - normal hourly rate till 8 then 1.5 hourly for anything after the first 8.. That's what I'm doing this year.. We bid yearly so I flipped over to a day start time after a few years on night line-haul..

Driving grocery for the Company at: $0.385 cpm (MT or full) Then its the accessorial pay that starts to add up.

I had one run moving Pumpkins at Halloween time .... $355 by nights end. Stop pay (9 stores in one night - I was hustlin'), detention pay, trailer connect, bobtail to the trailer yard .... yadda yadda.

If I keep this pace and nothing changes I will make more than my last year of software support work. Who saw that happening ?

One of the cool things about truckin' is that you can find something you enjoy within the industry. Whether that is moving cranes, hauling sporting goods, Heavy Haul, Tankers, triples or whatever. I move frozen waffles. People will always eat ... as long as there are people that is.

Performance-based pay is OK in a dedicated operation like LTL linehaul.
It's not such a good idea for the majority of irregular-route truckload outfits because there's too much unpaid waiting around, waiting for loads, etc.
Not just for the drivers...this is why companies like JB Hunt have gotten away from truckload and focused on dedicated and intermodal...the equipment/driver utilization is much better.
But you get O/O who think it's the cat's meow to run on %...and these guys have nowhere near the purchasing power of a big company like JB Hunt for fuel and equipment.
    EOBR's will settle everything, tho.
It will be like when the IRS started requiring social-security #'s to write-off dependents...all of a sudden there were 7 million less dependents in the USA! :biggrin_2559:
EOBR will clear the decks of lots of O/O and outlaw outfits.
