I think that this is gas. Haven't seen anything from the honda, in the USA, that used diesel as fuel. But, it just might as well be diesel - generator.

No, it's gas, but yes it has a fuel pump. No good diesel generators available at any kind of reasonable price.

I read The Legendary Redd Volvo is now defying physics taught by almighty Professor Terry (wish I had the internet access when that thread was hot).

May The Legend show us some mercy and spare some of his fuel savings to feed us mere mortals :biggrin_25523:

I was ecstatic when I averaged 7mpg on the last CA-NJ run, but it dropped down to 6-something with 46000-lb load going across 80 in PA and 71/65 in KY. O'Bummer!

My mileage is always bad heading west. If there's a wind anywhere my truck will take me head-first into it. This trip to SLC had 40-55mph head winds. Then when I leave salt lake and head toward Las Vegas of course the wind is 40 gusting to over 60 and coming out of the south to southwest. If it wasn't for the wind my mileage would be much higher.

Katz if you got 7 from CA to NJ that sounds pretty good. When you have a heavy load there's just no getting around the fact it's going to take more fuel to haul it. PA and anyplace with a lot of hills is not going to help, thats for sure. It take quite a bit of concentration, and sometimes will power, to do everyhing possible (within reason) to maximize fuel economy. But with diesel very likely to reach $5/gl within the year all the little savings will add up even more significantly. #1 is eliminate as much idling as possible.

I always run into severe headwind driving towards west in KS, so it seems.

I agree that it takes discipline and will power when it comes to things like reducing idle time and slowing down. I admit I need to work a little bit on those two.

But so far, the biggest gain has come from the hardware side. I bought a Bullydog power pup last November. My overall average mpg last year was 5.63mpg, with best of around 6.4mpg hauling light in Commiefornia driving 55-58. Now I routinely get mid 7s under similar circumstances in CA, and I just got 7-mpg overall average between Fresno, CA to Robbinsville, NJ. I was mostly doing 68-69 where permitted, plus a couple hours idling each night.

I think there's some more to be gained. It looks like I'll actually be getting some tax refund so I'm considering twin high-flow mufflers and PDI's exhaust manifold.

On somewhat related note, I'm also thinking about investing in some Canadian oil companies. They supply 60% of our imported oil, with unstability in middleeast and Obummer's continueing Gulf drilling moratorium ignoring a federal judge, it's quite possible Canadian oil stocks will do well this summer. Not much we can do about fuel price, so you might as well try to take advantage of it.
