I am wondering if anyone out there with experience can guide me. I am going to be attending a college driver training program. I have about 14 years tractor trailer experience but none OTR it was all in a railyard moving and spotting trailers so I do have some experience. After researching trucking companies it appears no matter what company you apply to you have to go through their training program for about $350.00 a week to start. Does anyone know of any good companies that get you on the road quick? Unemployment is bad and I need to get back to work. I can do OTR I am not concerned about that just need to make a liveable wage. Any help will be appreciated.

Watkins/Shepard turns you loose the quickest from what I've read.

Not a smart idea! If you want to make money you should go with a trainer. You do not have tractor trailer experience you have parking lot experience. Also there is a lot more to it then just the driving aspect of it. You are going to end up wondering around the country and in the long run making less money. That's just my experienced two cents.

You've got a good start (backing) most people struggle with that. AND your makeing a very SMART decision in going to a CC for your school, so you'll get plenty of seat time. Now if you pick it up fast and your a quick learner with some common sense and a good record. Call Roxy In recruiting for Watkins Shepard Trucking: You'll go through a 10 day orientation then go out SOLO in your OWN truck. We also have tuition reinbursement so they'll pay you back for going to school!
If you have any questions feel free to ask, and we also have allot of info on here about them in the Watkins Shepard section under the Company Dac reports...

Sorry but it is not parking lot experience. Spotting trailers in a rail yard is allot more than that. Still had to do pre trips, drop and hooks, dropped a few trailers in my time. Worked also as an operation Manager for a company doing log checks, Qfiles, driver orientation, etc. So I do have more than Parking Lot experience.

Ok your right, your ready. Any more questions?

A.T. I never said anything bad about you. I think you and Chralb and Walstib did an excellent job. I've never knocked your company either. I think they sound like a really good company. If this guy is clueless though when it comes to trucking then Watkins may not be his best choice. I think most people with some sort of understanding of trucks should do just fine there. Sorry if I offended you. Those were never my intentions.
