Road motors is a term my cousin Dale (NS engineer) and most of his co workers use for units that are in road service. Rather than switchers (like GP38-2 and some older SD units) Road engines are usually SD-40 and up (per Dale) Most of them down here are SD-70, 80, ES4400CW, C44-9W. Believe it or not, NS still specs most locomotives with the old style control stand rather than the desktop controls. In fact, until about 2000, they had them built with the controls on the left side to be used in long hood forward configuration.
Don't work for crst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is in a lot of company rules for many industries--more times than not--they have lots that cant speak/read/comprehend english. Its only getting worse as well.
The problem with CRST is they suck people in saying they will school you and you wont have to pay. The real truth is--one you get outta training and in your own truck with your co driver--they are taking half your pay for your schooling. So, not only are you upset but your hauling their freight pretty much for nothing--People just dont get the real picture here. You are better off going to school on your own and not let these company's mess you over. If you get a co driver making .11 a mile and your making the .22 a mile--the lessor of the 2 is not gonna wanna pull his own weight.
Its a money racket is all it was. I did work at crst for short time but went on with local experience and had a co driver that went to their school -- so i know what they did to him and poor guy could barely eat for the week.

Stick to the point and the facts they probably do not have anymore African Americans than any other company their size. They obviously didnt discriminate against you. They are located in Iowa that sure is not the Hotbed Brothers

I am not defending CRST..
But I will say this...My son has been working for them for over 6months now..he didnt have to sign a 8month contract because he had his cdl already..
if you drive a truck for anybody YOU WILL HAVE SHOPTIME...just the way it goes...
but my son went in knowing he had to put in a full year somewhere to get EXPERIENCE..also he being 21 might have to stay there untill he reaches 23 so he can move on to better things....
My kid is actually enjoying his time there..seeing the country lol he hasnt missed a blizzard all winter long....getting some great experince...he has stated he has been getting so many miles that he has found it hard to find time to get a 34 hour reset..but he manages...
I guess its all just depends on what you make it....
BTW my son is white so is his co driver and his trainer and his DM...but I guess it doesnt really matter what your color is as long as you get the job done...
it really makes me laugh to see all the negitive on CRST when I hear from my kid telling me how much fun he is having and having a pocket full of money and pleanty on his com card....but then again at his age he didnt really have a lot of choice where he could go..and just decided he would make the best out of it untill he get his needed experience under his belt...formertaxidriver and lookingat18wheels Thank this. -
My brother likes his job, too. (BTW: He does not qualify as African-American.) He's on that 20/10 or 10/20 Program....however they term it....and loves it. I don't know anything about CRST other than what he tells me. And that's not very much.

I think people go to crst with a different thought of how its gonna end. I was there for a few months just to get experience as I only had local. We got good runs and miles--I only had issues with my co driver while i was there due to he went to their school and I didnt--already had my cdl as well for a while. It is tough being in a truck with another person much less someone you really dont know until it comes up. I dont really think its a white/black/mexican issue--The time i was there I saw just as many white and others--so that shouldnt have even been brought up. Yes i Do believe anyone that has a job in US--no matter what nationality they are--should be able to write/read/comprehend english.

The contract you signed when you started will clearly state the details of when the contract is completed, I hope you have a copy of that. It doesn't matter if they changed the contract as long as you have a copy of the original and you didn't quit before it said you could. IF you have that contract go to a lawyer. IF you don't, you are screwed.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 28, 2011

Unless they have changed their practice, they don't give you a copy of the contract until after you complete it, and if you are one day short of that 8 months, you pay the entire $3950 according to the contract I have read. They can terminate you at will for any reason in the state of Iowa, as Iowa is a right to work state.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 28, 2011

If they don't give me a copy of everything I sign, I would walk away right there. They may as well have you sign a blank sheet of paper and fill it out after you have signed it....crazy if true.
If this driver did not get it in writing that he could quit when he did, he is screwed. -
It is always wise to take any negative comments about trucking companies with a pinch of salt. Most are posted by drivers that got fired or quit all pissed off. Like the OP of this thread, it is not clear that the company did anything wrong, he quit before he should have and now they want their money per the contract. I'm on the fence on this one. Most new drivers have very high expectations of how it is gonna be and reality smacks them in the face.
Not defending any companies here.
