i don't know if you are still looking into Ozark or really what you want to know about them, but i am starting with them on Monday. i scoured the web and couldn't find anything bad about the company.

i just finished trucking school yesterday. a recruiter from ozark came in and i'll have to say he was the only recruiter that didn't give me that slippery snake feeling.

their training wages are better than most - .14 c per truck mile, but maybe you don't need training.
long haul starts @ .34 - not bad for no experience.
regional starts @ .30 - home every weekend.

i know of someone that has been with them for five years and he loves working at Ozark.

    good luck

When I was leased to MS Carriers back in the 90s,I talked to a lot of Ozark drivers, they all seemed to like working there.Course really thats all hearsay on my part, but usually when drivers talk well of a co.it is pretty good.

Thanks. I am looking to adventure back in to trucking in January 2007....I want to start on the right foot, not the wrong one like I did last time....I want to sign on with a good company....one that treats drivers w/ respect, doesn't screw up my pay everytime, can get home once in a while....that's all I want

those are the most important things to me also. i would sacrifice a little money for a decent working situation. but Ozark pays well enough, at least for my standards. i have been doing research on companies for a few months to help avoid screwing myself over by signing on with a bad company. and i feel confident that they are not in the business of screwing people over. only time will tell.

i am sure Ozark is not perfect, but like i said i haven't been able to find anything bad about them on the web and have only heard good things when i have talked to people. i have never seen an Ozark ad looking for drivers, apparently that's a good sign.

i forgot to tell you that long haul drivers are home every 8-10 days. not bad. it might say that on their website. Ozark.com
i have been told that they do honor the commitment to home time. i hope they do, otherwise i won't last long. we'll see.

well, it looks like you have awhile before you start working as a trucker again, so i'll keep you posted and let you know how my experience with Ozark goes.

    "I'm not speeding...I'm qualifying!!!" - love that

Ozark Motor Lines, Inc. is a decent company. I haven't worked for them, but used to run in some of the same circles as many of their drivers, and you get a feel of a company simply by talking to their drivers.

They do go through a lot of people, but from what I know of things, it isn't due to the way drivers are treated. It has more to do with the lower than the norm pay, but as you have offered and something that I happen to agree with, is that the pay per mile isn't everything...

They haul some decent freight. They have lots of dedicated accounts, if you happen to live in the right areas. They have always suffered a little in the safety arena, and you may want to check out and gauge their attitude on logbooks...

They are a little higher than average in driver out-of-services for logbook violations, and their ISS-2 is 93, which means you will likely see the backside of the scalehouses for a look-see by an officer....

as far as the safety record goes, this is what i was told bt Tommy at Ozark:

Ozark used to have the prepass, but now they don't. drivers weren't doing their log books because they figured they wouldn't be checked due to the prepass, but they were being checked. Ozark suffered many OOS penalities because of it and apparently, as i understand it, it began to affect their insurance rates. Ozark talked to DOT and tried to get the prepass removed from only the offending drivers. DOT said no, you have it or you don't. so, Ozark revoked the prepass because it was the only way to make their drivers conform to the log book law and better their safety rating to bring down the rising cost of insurance.

i had orientation yesterday. couldn't even believe how nice everyone is at Ozark. it could be a sign that they like their job. also, everyone that i met is upfront - didn't detect any slippery used car salespeople.
leaving tomorrow for training. pretty excited.

I am supposed to start with Ozark next week. I have been driving for 7 months with another not so reputable company but still leary about leaving it. I can deal with not having a prepass but what about the ez-pass. Wouldn't want to have to pay the tolls all the time? Can anyone give more info on this? Supposed to go to Evansville, IN on June 14 for orientation...Really nervous at this point.

Less than what an avg company does .. Pays only zip to zip but tells you which way to go.. which means lots of unpaid miles.
Lots of over night runs even after having you sit all day waiting for a load.
