    Chris.

I carry a bicycle with me on the top bunk. Since most truck stops are in rural areas, you can get out and ride while seeing some sights. It also is great for breaking the monotony of being around the truck all the time.

You can also go online and check out the local cycling club and find someone that will take you around and show you some routes. I have met so many good people by doing this.
I have dozens of great riding routes around the country. If you like I can give them to you.

For weight training in the truck I carry exercise bands and a small set of free weights.

I am a firm believer in the KISS principle--best thing you can do on road is stretching and some quick cardio--you can run in place next to your truck(just like the old heart rate checkups)to your hearts content.
As for stretch w/out going into too long a post--leg up one at a time on step-dont bounce hold for 30 change repeat--great for hams--
Anyway any basic cardio-workout book has plenty of examples(Ill look for couple of examples as time allows)
as for muscle work--check any PT rehab facility in your area--they use reisitance bands(all different types)I keep 3 8ft lengths of silver band in truck--can do about any weight lifting exercise you want w/them--will they work for full blown body building? Probably not--will they help keep you tone and loose+flexible-ABSOLUTELY!
    Just my $.02

I've got a set of the Bowflex adjustable dumbbells, they are awesome! Easy as pie to change the weight, great for progressive or declining sets.

Thanks guys I have seen a video on youtube of a truck driver who carried his own bicycle. I have also red they say that using a jump rope is as much or more cardio then a tread mill not sure how true but yeah i bet it gets the heart pumping good. The resistant bands is another great thing as well. There a woman on youtube who does workout videos everyday just using her own body weight and I have tried a few and dam there tuff so I may try incorporating some of her stuff in as well.

    Here's her channel http://www.youtube.com/user/charliejames1975
it looks kinda like the P90X they have out

Jumping rope is great, HOWEVER, it's high impact, so ease into doing it, and stop if you notice knee/hip/ankle pain.

And yeah, that chick from that youtube channel is waaaay too hot. haha However, she doesn't always do bodyweight. She uses sandbags and other things from time to time.

OK, back to answering the question that was asked. Yes, my Wife & I ate healthy while teaming. We had one of those little cooler type fridges. We'd shop at Wally World or any other grocery store that we could park in. (Sometimes we'd park at the rear of the store near the docks) Buy lettuce & the vegetables that you like in a salad. 1/2 gallon jug of milk fits in well. Whole wheat bread with lunch meat. You can slice the ham & turkey into strips to male a Julian (?) salad. A pizza cutter works great for that. We had one of those 12 volt little portable stoves. The kind that looks like a lunch box. We could make omlettes, cook those rolled up biscuits, soups. Be sure to line it with foil or use those Reynolds oven bags to keep cleanup under 30 seconds. Yogurt fit in the fridge. You can eat as healthy in the truck as you do at home. If preparation is a hassle, precut veggies during hometime where you have a bigger kitchen.

We also had Fat Fridays. That's when we would satisfy our tastebuds & not worry about the beltline. Ya gotta live it up sometimes.

yes sorry she does use the weight bag/sand and few other things. Yeah she's really toned but you go back to her first video ever and you can see she wasn't that toned but clearly has been that skinny forever.

The more I keep watching videos on youtube and reading online I see a lot of truckers who have managed to eat healthy while on the road. so I think for sure it can be done.

    Thanks
    Chris

I carry a Coleman cooler and but a lot of groceries when I can get into a Walmart. I do cook in a road-pro stove(the one that looks like a lunch box). In a couple of hours I can cook a small roast in an oven bag(much less clean up) in this thing. Just add the meats, seasoned to taste, veggies and a little water and plug it in. Then drive. Makes the truck smell great and you have a good meal when you stop for a lot less than you will spend in a truck stop. You can make stews, soups, bake potatoes and any number of other meals with this cheap cooker and the lid snaps shut so you do not have to worry about spills, like i have had with a crock pot. I can eat for a week on about $100. And I know it will taste great.

Google roadcookin and get some ideas on how to be healthy on the road. While they are not truckers, they have worked with truckers for years. Don is a cook, with 20 years experience in the materials handling industry and Pam is a nutritionist. Lots of great ideas and recipes for free on their site, even though they also have services you can pay for. You can also hear them on the trucking channels from time to time on satellite radio.

Lilbit, richieryan and Joker24 Thank this.
