Here in my home town, Gillette, WY the TS has been going downhill for years. It was a Husky before it became Flying J. They quit doing service work including tires years ago. I had the worst TS meal ever a few years ago on Thanksgiving. I got a piece of pie there once that was so old it was like rubber and they didn't even take it off the ticket after I complained. The restaurant began closing at night several years ago even though it was about only place open late and was pretty busy. They couldn't find help. I talked to a guy one morning and he couldn't take a shower because they didn't have anybody to clean them.
After the Pilot buyout, it was rumored they were putting in a Subway where the restaraunt was. I stopped today and no Subway even. They took out all the windows so you can't see out and enlarged the convenience store. All there is to eat is prepackaged sandwiches, burritos, etc, and chicken wings, pizza, etc, for hot food. There isn't even any place to sit. I forgot to look and see if they still had showers, but it didn't look like they had a drivers lounge. The only good thing is there are about 6 fast food joints within about half a block. If I was going I-90, I would stop at the Windmill in Rapid City. At least they make a decent breakfast or hamburger. The fuel at the Coffee Cup 25 miles east in Moorecroft is cheaper than Gillette anyway.

I've never stopped at Gillette. The few times I've gone west on '90 I've stopped at Rapid and Billings. I get California loads a lot, so I've been to all the truck stops on I80 in Wyoming... And Utah...

That's a shame--but seems to be the way a lot of T/S are going nowadays--although can't honestly remember last time I was in Gillette--if Im in that area on 90 usually do the 34-212 bypass(either way so dont go thru there--same going to Cali or points south--drop down to 20 out of rapid--and thru woods down to Rawlins--but Thanx for the info~

The way truck stops are going it may not be too long before all they have is a drive up window with no other facilities!
