eratic engine miss/low power

My truck is running rough but the jakes are still working, they just sound deeper than normal. Does your tack jump when you are giving it fuel? I can hear a tick in the back side of the motor when it is idling. The noise and the jump in the tack gets worst as the day goes on. Then the next day it starts all over again.
