I don't understand why someone decides to take their own life, and involve countless others with their selfish act. They leave their family and friends behind to try understanding what caused them to do such, and now they have involved an innocent driver who had nothing to do with his/her problems.

I pray the driver is strong enough to overcome this and continue on with his life. I pray for his family and friends also, that if he can't deal with it, it doesn't ruin their lives as well.

I still wrestle with the loss 35 years later. As hard as I try I cannot see anything in his life justifying such a decision.

(speaking of a teenage friend whom took his life )

I've seen so many over the years. And the worst part of it, at least for me, was in dealing with the family when making notifications. I honestly do not see how the folks who are in the funeral homes deal with seeing the grief of others so much.

i drove by that situation shortly after it happened (west bound).from the parts in sight it looked like a large man. one arm almost reached the fender. man or woman, the hood was where they came to rest not where they impacted. the windshield and front of cab roof were cleaved as with a dull axe. and the body was facedown head toward the cab. looking like the deceased was on the railing looking back down the highway to time the fall.
this was a selfish act, putting the driver and other motorists at great peril. Kudos to the skinner who managed to bring his unit to astop without incident, and I hope this tragic event doesn't impact too heavily upon him, tho lord knows it would be understandable.

I bet the company puts this down as preventable.

The Funeral Director doesn't really deal with the initial trauma that has hit the family and freinds of the deceased...the LEO or County Coroner are the ones that catch the real brunt of the issue.

Family counseling is a big part of FD curriculum...some handle it with an almost sarcastic approach, and others take a the very solemn "cold" approach. The FD is almost a counselor and needs to "convince" the family that there probably wasn't anything they could have done...and to reassure them that "life goes on" so keep the "good and fun" memories alive in your thoughts of the deceased.

OTOH...you really don't see too many FD's retire from the industry...it does "get to you" at some point!

I feel bad for the driver. Here's a thought for anyone contemplating suicide. Please plan offing yourself alone and leave others out of your life ending issues. You're gone and this poor driver will live with this the rest of his life. Try this if you want to end it, go to your local gun range, rent a gun, then go in the back and put a bullet in your head.

Seen that method of suicide too many times; probably the most common next to carbon monoxide and over dose. Nontheless, it still ruins the lives of those close to the person, especially the unfortunate sole who finds them.

Suicide: Permanent solution to a temporary problem. Hopefully you all will try to reach out to someone you suspect has a problem. Prayers to all victims.....the family of the deceased and the driver.
