Yesterday we did dock parking practice for four hours straight. With only two of us doing it... I got it in the box exactly once. I was getting pretty frustrated and pretty much had a minor meltdown. We were shown a parallel park once, my classmate tried it once, I left.

Today was better. We did parallel parking and after the first botched attempt, that seemed to click. I can currently nail it on the first shot, every time. (This could change tomorrow, but today it's my favorite.) I can still back in a straight line, too.

The stupid dock park kills me. I cannot see the cones, so even as I start to get the hang of what I'm doing, I can't figure out where to stop and sometimes even can't see the cones to not "kill Kenny" (obliterate the cone). I got the trailer in the box twice, but I overshot (encroached?) both times.

Tomorrow we go to the DMV for pre-trip, brakes, and in-cab. For this, I'm not so worried. This is just memorization. If I can't get down the dock parking, though, I'm going to be hurting on Friday.

Off to recover for a bit. Night, all.

It gets easier...just remember to watch the marks on the trailers exactly. Are you kind of leaning yourself out the window to watch the cones? Sometimes you have to do that as the mirrors aren't big enough to see all you need to. You'll do fine, I'm sure. Just remember, do not even open the door, automatic fail for that skill here in Cali. Stupid if you ask me as in real life you can open the door and G.O.A.L. as much as you need to..
On my pretrip, I forgot a whole section on the drive tires/wheels. But as I got to the trailer axle, I remembered it, told the examiner I forgot it. She said that's ok, what are you looking for on them? I recited them exactly to her. Only missed 4 items on the whole shebang. You will nail it.

Don't feel bad, I'm doing the same thing. Yesterday we started the 90 degree dock too and in the 2-3 hours worth of trying I got it in the hole a total of 1 time. I'm hoping that today goes better. Today we practice the 90 degree some more & start on the parallel park. Just remember some things will take a little longer to get than others will but with practice we can get them all down. Good luck! I'm sure you will get it!

Yesterday we went to the DMV to finally take our pretrip and brakes, waited for 2 hours, then left without testing. Arrrrgh!

We drove to an area near the Ontario Airport and we learned how to drive... wooot! Double-clutching isn't bad, but I definitely like floating the gears. I'll just have to wait until I pass DMV to do it.

We saw a whole herd of England students just walking around, not driving. I felt badly for them.

Then, just to make sure I had to take Maalox (antiacid), I got to drive 20 miles on the freeway. Way fun, but way scary!

After we were done and I /finally/ landed one in the dock box, I went back by the classroom and met DirtyBob, who is also planning to head to W/S. *waves* He is easily the head of his class and the only one I would suggest for W/S.

Good day all around... but trying to not hit itty bitty four wheelers with my truck is freakin' nerve-wracking. :p
