So a lot of people have their experince in the newbie section. I had one but hopefully the mods here won't mind if I make a new one for my expediting adventures.
I took my CDL/C written test at the sec of state and did better than what I thought I would. I passed first time around got 46 out of 50 right. My next step is to go back to the sec of state here in michigan because I didn't have my social security card on me. I go back, show them my social security card, I can get my permit. Then it will be on to schedule a road test. Just got to find a examiner that hopefully has a cargo or sprinter van lol. I sure as heck don't know anyone with one so should be fun lol. But thats my update for now I plan on updating this everytime somethin happens.

So just an update. Im calling monday probably to schedule a road test. Looks like im going to have to call Uhaul up and rent a cargo van. Not sure who im going to call for my road test yet. Its going to be one of two people. Either our mass transist system here, they do road test, or another local guy. Just depends how much he wants for the road test. I can do a road test with the mass transist system for 60 bucks.

who you plan on driving for? And what you plan on driving?

Well I know im prolly gonna catch a lot of guff over this, but I think im going to try and get hired with PantherII, just to get experince and go from there. Heck who knows I might like Panther and stay on. I also at one point plan on becomming a O/O. And im looking to drive a Sprinter or Cargo van. I know im not going to get rich doing this job but I want to do it to explore and see our country. I may once I get started try and get my passport to do canada runs as well.

I drive for panther now in a cargo van. I enjoy it and make pretty good money also. Not sure if your aware but you will need a cdl to drive a cargo van. YOu can also go to expediters online and read up more on the business.

Well im glad to hear you like it jeep. I seamed to read a lot of negitive things about Panther, but then like many people say you always hear negitive things rather than positive. I figure it will be a good starting spot. And I am aware that I need a CDL. Im in the process of obatining my CDL at this time. I passed the written test 46 questions right out of 50. And Im down to scheduling my road test and passing it. So I take it youd recommend starting with panther then?
-
Gonna be honest. I been with them;for almost 2 years. They keep me rolling around 1500 or more miles a week. But with 1500 miles you can make close to a grand a week. Panther is like any company. Good and bad flaws. Only thing I don't is dispatch. They are a little slow.
-
Ok thanks Jeep! And ya I figure there would be good things and bad things like you said. No company is 100% perfect. I just got to try and get someone to answear the phone where my road test is going to be threw. Called 14 times and still no answear lol

So after makin some calls I found out today that apperently in michigan there is really no CDL/C. So now what I got to do is go BACK to the sec of state and talk to them. Cause looks like I have to add a endorcement on my cdl permit now. Was pretty much givin the choice of the passenger endorcement, but in that case id have to try and get a hold of a bus to take my CDL road test in. Or do the hazmat endorcement. Didnt wanna do a endorcement yet cause im already having to borrow money to do all my test, and now im gonna have to borrow an extra 85 bucks on top of it. But I guess with the hazmat endorcement more oppratunitys open up.

Panther cargo vans don't haul placard hazmat but we do haul it non placard. Any endorsement will work. Good luck on the test.
TheFreightTrain Thanks this.
