    as it sits my employment record is a little shaky from the past few years from the economy. i was on unemployment for a little bit. anyway to the point;

    i worked for a piece of crap last year that constantly cussed me out, yelled, threw fits etc. i quit, matter fact i never showed up one day. now as far as my unemployment gap i did work for my friend doing carpentry here and there nothing full time or substantial just a few bucks. as it is now i have him on my resume as i worked there from the time i was laid off from my lumber yard job until i got the job i have now. the question is, i dont want to lie to someone but techincally i'm not, just embelishing the truth but it'd look real bad if they found out i collected, and worked at a job that i didnt put down. so i'm sure its possible for a company to find out the unemployment thing a long with the job, but how likely is it that they even check? and is the job i had with my friend considered not verifiable since it wasnt on the books?

    They can not find out you were on unemployment, that is private information. All they can do is call your friend for verification and he will verify the dates of emplyment that you tell him to.

    Almost everyones resume has "embellishments" if not downright lies on them. That's kinda how it works in the world my friend.

    I got my first bartending job by inventing a bar in another city and invented 5 years experience working there. :) 2 weeks of bartending school and I was easliy able to pull it off.

    haha nice story. i guess my only concern would be them finding out about the job i worked last year. however if they are able to find that out i can just tell them i only worked there part time while working in construction which is the truth, to a degree if you know what i mean. i was just concerned about them pulling up every single job i've had.

    there is no secret database of jobs that you have had. If it was a commercial driving job that happens to report to DAC then maybe they would know that. A credit report may or may not have some past employers listed, but very very very few companies report to the credit bureaus. Third party background check companies simply look up the information you provide, cover all your bases and you'll be fine.

    Ah, yes they can find out about unemployment. Besides, you have to provide explanations of gaps in employment.

    You lie on an application, and you will not get hired.

    Wargames Thanks this.

    well let me qualify that then, they cant find out in California unless you tell them. And again if his friend has a construction company he can put down any dates of employment he wants. I have two family members with businesses. Ive never worked for them yet i can say I did and it's covered baby.

    I'm on unemployment now. I was one of .5% (completley random) of new applicants that had to go to a class at the EDD office before collecting. It was a class on how the system works and that was exactly a question someone asked. "can anyone find out you are/were on umemployment?" The instructor said absolutely not.

    Again, your state maybe different.

    Be honest. All that is required for your CDL is what you were doing and where you lived during "X" amount of time. You worked lost job, unemployed looking for work, stay at home parent, ets. you dont need anybody to verify you were looking for work, or that you were being a stay at home parent ets.. its just what you were doing. Thats all they need and want nothing more without any gaps in it. Very simple no need to sweat anything or lie about anything. With a few exceptions of course. Mentioning his buddys under table job would be bad. He dont need anything potentially going electronic saying he was jacking the IRS that could bite him in the ace later on. Unemployed looking for work in that space will do just fine.

    There IS a "secret database" of jobs you've had - as a former employer myself, each state lists every W-2 position you've held, easy enough to track by checking the companies that have paid into social security, medicare and unemployment (along with you) as their contributions when you're paid.

    Unemployment is also shown in state databases, but if you apply to an out of state employer, it's much tougher to track.

    You can't go wrong if you tell the truth. Most applications ask for your work experience and the date you began and ended that job, they don't generally ask you to account for the gaps between jobs. The law requires you list all driving jobs you have had in the last 10 years when applying for a trucking job--they are not concerned with some under the table work you did between jobs.

    respectfully Im gonna call bollocks on that.
    What employer sends off to the IRS(and SS office) for a list of every w-2 an applicant has had? (I wonder if they even can)
