From what I've read and been led to believe, the 30 day limit on THC metabolytes being found in urine is largely a farce. Wikipedia says this:

"... studies have shown that detection times of 30+ days are actually quite exceptional, even for chronic users subjected to tests with lower than normal cutoffs. Under the typical 50 ng/mL cutoff for THC in the United States, an occasional or one-off user would be very unlikely to test positive beyond 3–4 days since the last use, and a chronic user would be unlikely to test positive much beyond 10 days. Using a more sensitive cutoff of 20 ng/mL (less common but still used by some labs), the most likely maximum times are 7 days and 21 days, respectively. "
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_testing#Cannabis_remains_detectable_in_urine_for_30_days_or_more

On the other hand, I find it hard to believe that a trucking company would hide positive results from the rest of the industry. Think of the liability that puts Stevens in. Say, God forbid, that another company hires you with that secret hanging over Stevens' head and you get in an accident where civilians are injured or killed. Stevens' liability would likely be worth tens of millions if not hundreds of millions of dollars. It is actually in Stevens' best interest to tell other companies about your positive test.

Now I'm going to speak as a Former Pot Smoker. If I believed that I could possibly be found to be positive for THC metabolytes for up to 30 days, I'd give myself MUCH MORE THAN A 15 DAY CUSHION. Much more. Even though I can't consider myself a "Trucker" yet, I do understand that it's light years away from driving a regular automobile, and I'm kind of awed by the privilege that's about to be given to me. I would never risk losing that privilege by picking an arbitrary number of days and hoping I'd be negative by the time I had to give a urine sample.

I'm feel for you considering the consequences you'll face due to giving a positive sample, but have to say that if I were in your shoes I'd have been much more respectful of the possibility of being branded in the industry as unemployable because of THC use.

I guess time will tell whether or not you get hired by anyone as a driver. I'm betting it's more likely that your positive test will be public knowledge than not.

CRST, the company I going through orientation with, had a question on the employment application that I filled out today that read something like this:

Have you ever given a urine sample for employment purposes that tested positive for illegal drugs?

That's a pretty straightforward question and I don't think they'd ask it if they thought they couldn't find out if you were telling the truth.

    Good luck to you.

I am not positive on this so dont quote me--Here--if a company pays for a drug test and it comes up dirty--it can be put on DAC. If they pay for drug test and/or dot physical--it will show up on dac. I could be wrong but i think that is how it is here. Even if you never work a day for them.

who told you it does not get reported...???

the school alone is under DOT regulations, they HAVE TO report that....AND SEND YOU to a drug rehab at YOUR OWN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE, in fact, you are supposed to be suspended from school till you complete the drug rehab.....

    read on

    yes

    yes, again

to the o/p, you NEED to get out your "green bible" and since you have 2 weeks left in school, you SHOULD KNOW what the "green bible" is, and refer to sections:

    40.25 and 40.163

since you did an online application with stevens, and you are attending a school that they work with, you signed a bevy of papers your first day or two (in school) then you SIGNED paperwork from stevens.. your SS number will be (in many instances) your employee number till you get an official number from the company at a later date. you were in a pre-employment/approval stage.....why else did the DOCTOR from stevens call the school...???? if you were under no pre-approval with stevens, their doctor would have NEVER CALLED....

if stevens has some sort of agreement with the school, (and it does seem like they do) then they are bound to follow DOT regulations as the school is working as stevens "agent"....

One does not need be an employee to be DAC'd,( as even in the beginning stages of employment with a company suffices, as you signed papers before hand) and what you did was from it's basic of all things was FAIL a pre-employment drug screen.

someone at the school that told you it will NOT get reported is lying to you, or if it's someone from stevens, they are lying to you..

either way, you are toast.....stick a fork in yourself, you're done.....

I called DAC today and there is nothing on my report but he said to check back in a week or two. Also i paid for my DOT physical and drug test. If you go on the DOT website it says that it is confidential. i think the kicker would be if i went down to Dallas and had there physical. i never signed any paper work with them except there app that was online. as far as the trucking school they said if i do come back not to tell the next company and all i have to do is give the school a current test showing i'm negative. just to make it clear to all the haters out there I STOPPED SMOKING! and im not planning on smoking agian even if i don't go into trucking. Its not like its the end of the world there are many other careers out there i'm just trying to make trucking my first choice. this site has been helpful.

FYI...DAC is not in the habit of disclosing information via the phone. you need to order up a copy, in about a week or two..i am quite surprised you were told anything on the phone, that's a new one on me....

you should have been sent to the SAP through your school on your dime as well. there will be follow up randoms one has to go through as well during the first year.

if you do not get DAC'd by this, i truly do hope you learned a very valuable lesson, and get on with your life.

but just speaking with my boss, who by the way gets called to testify at driver's trials, he has said that in school, and a positive, you get DAC'd...as the school was supposed to be informed of the positive results, and since they obviously were informed, because the Stevens doctor called them.....well....what can i say that hasn't already been said..??

someone is NOT CONFORMING to the rules and regulations....if the school is lax on this..?? they can lose any accreditation they have for either a period of time, or permanently.

i'd hate to be in their shoes right now.

so in closing, good luck to you, hope for the best, but expect the worst however.

I have several apps from various trucking companies before me now, they all ask if you've ever failed a drug test in the past.

Positive for THC 45 days after quitting, are you fat? Your fat cells must have been really saturated with THC.
