Two beefs with Wal-Mart DCs. First is not being able to be at the gate more than one hour before your appointment time. Problem? They don't stamp you in until you get to the WINDOW inside. Corinne, UT - I got there the requisite one hour before appointment. 15 (yes, I had plenty of time to count) trucks ahead of me, the line backed up onto the highway. It took the hour to get up to the guard shack. By the time I got inside and waited in THAT line, they were trying to tell me I was late. NOT. I did win that one... and they unloaded me fairly quickly. I know there ARE some Wal-Mart DCs that allow drivers to get there two hours early (Bedford, PA) but you have no idea which ones they are until you check and see. Robert, LA - there is a reason they have the LONG driveway in front of the G/S!
The second beef is no parking. I arrived at Harrisonville, MO at the end of my 14 (Poor dispatch planning, not mine). So when they were done, I could not legally leave, and of course, despite the acres and acres of space, I was not allowed to stay there. Nearest truck stop is Peculiar, MO Flying J - something like 20 miles north. I was stuck... ended up on a ramp, which I hate. Wal-Marts DCs with parking nearby are rare, and again, you only learn about them once you are there. Ochelata, OK has a gravel/dirt lot across the street.
Usually, though, once you get checked in, they do unload you within reasonable time, in my experience - and I like knowing before I go in how much it will cost to unload.

Wintersville held me up for 7 hours a few weeks ago...hah but wouldnt ya know it was super bowl sunday and my appointment time was 1600...pretty much during the half time show, and wintersville aint but 40 miles from pittsburg and im sure theyre all Steelers fans...I knew at the beginning of the load it was gonna be a long trip. Haha.. if all the DC's were exactly the same it would make it easier for us, but they all do some things just a little bit different. Some let you barely clear the 5th wheel, some make you park in bobtail. Some want the check when you check in, some when your on the way out. I just wish they would standardize all of them. Anyway best one is Brundidge, Al, they had me in and out of there for a live unload in under an hour.

On the other end, I'm mad at Walmart right now. I bought a 42" TV a week ago online site to store. They have online tracking. I watched the TV move from the sort facility to the Midway, TN DC. It's been sitting there for three days now. Stick the dang thing on a truck and deliver it. They don't get in any hurry.

I ordered site to store merchandise for Christmas and apparently it doesn't get cataloged the same way as regular merchandise if it's photo lab because I never got notified and when I went to site to store, they couldn't find it on the computer under my name, they had to go search for it in the photo lab area. -

Want to get paid for what you do?? Log it like you run it, not Dispatch. By the way, do not go to the easy tax place, go to an accountant, unpaid work is unpaid work, thus reducing your obligation. Let trucking companies screw you, but last I seen "Roots" is not a legal occupation.
