how are you soundproofing the cab, I'd be interested in that.
are you going to drive or just put somebody in the truck? -
I'll be driving it/ with some one hopefully. Took the carpeting out and installed sound proofing material, do a search for the volvo thread or better yet for the sound proofing thread and I have it all spilled out, only with my S.U.V - wannabe. he he

I've been reading this thread, a lot of info, kinda mind boggling. I got a few question. First , if i get hired does the trailer plates also got to be mercers, like the truck plates? Second, does mercer pay 100 % of the assessorial charges. Third, do they run EOBD or will they soon. Fourth, does anyone know if they have some good off-lease(terminated lease). And fifth, thank you for your info
-
you can run your current tractor & trailer plates until they expire, then you must use Mercers. If you have a plate for five or eight years from someplace like Maine you can continue to use it. They will pay the accessorials on what they collect, much like anyplace else. Usually tarping will be included in the rate you are given, if it specifies it is a tarp load. If you find a 'no tarp' load requires tarps you get it straightened out with the agent before you tarp, find out exactly what the extra charges will be. Haven't come across a lot of accessorial charges. Maybe NY metro area and things like that. I've had that be a meager $30 to as much as $500.
Good off-lease what? Trailers? Most of the ones available are recent model years and have a few months use on them.CATshaker Thanks this. -
Opps, forgot about EOBRs ... no Mercer does not have them, only has Qualcom on a select few units running freight where it is mandated by the shipper. However in two years it is very possible that all OTR trucks will be required to have EOBRs whether the motor carrier or truck owner wants it installed or not. Hey, the FMCSA, DOT, etc. are all just worried about keeping us safe and profitable .... right?
CATshaker Thanks this. -
I think you can keep running your plate if you bring in your own trailer. I've been running Commiefornia plate on mine since the beginning, and nobody has said anything so far.
Of course, I totally believe it!! How could anyone from the government possibly lie to us!?
I also believe those teachers in Wisconsin playing hookie and protesting when they say they are doing that for the kids!
God bless Scott Walker and the teachers who care about the kids more than union previlages.
Good luck to you. -
I need it and then plus some. Thanks.

Next ?, what would be the best choice in trailer, I was thinking of a drop deck. Cause I believe it would be more of a versatile trailer, what do y'all think. I have a very light truck, I can carry 52500-53000 with a 45 routinour(sp?). Thanks

I'm pretty sure everyone will say you need at least a 48ft. If I could afford it my ideal trailer would be aluminum with a sliding rear axle. I would be taking heavier loads to western Canada where spreads are treated as a single axle. From my home area we have frequent loads out there, and they can pay very well. From what I hear a lot of people got drop decks with the same idea. That's a crapshoot. Many places insist on a flatbed and will not load a step, then of course there are loads that can go on a step that cannot go on a flat.
I believe Mercer will require a minimum 48', and it must have a 40' lower deck to accomodate 40' containers. Loaded container cannot have any overhang.
