Hay there! I have a question about Swift Acadamy at San Antonio that I have not seen a thread on yet. If you all ready have your class A permit. What are they going to do? Are they going to make me take the Tests all over again. I have no problem sitting through the class again I just really do not want to take the test again.I also have had my Class B CDL for several years. And I did the on-line CDL pre-test that Swift requires. I know I am going to have to take another physical all though mine is not even 4 months old. That kind of stinks because I have to pay for that and another drug screen.

Just make sure the school knows what you have. Been a while since I've been there, but several in my class had permits or class B. They did something I think, just not sure. Call the school to find out for sure. They are nice folks there.
lunaglow Thanks this. -
Thanks! That is one of the questions my recruiter did not seem to know the answer too.

You are going to have fun at the SA academy! Say hello to MR. Colloway,Mr Thomson and all the gang. You will have this ringing in your head by the time you leave there "Pay Attention To Detail"
If you did not take all the other tests that go along with the permit then you will do this when you are down there. If you have already taken the tests for example air brakes and so on then you will hang out in the dirt parking lot by the bus with one of the instructors until the other students get finished.
When you take your road test watch out for the curb sticking out in the school zone and the curb at the right turn going to the DMV. Do not go into the on coming lane to make that turn. You will want to but you will fail if you do. Do not make cars back up at that turn. Wait until it is clear. Also the parallel parking will be done on a live street with lots of traffic for you to worry about. Right next door to a Mexican restaurant.
Good luck you will have fun with the instructors. They are a good bunch of guys.lunaglow Thanks this. -
Thanks bluebonn! That is such a relief to know. I so did not want to take those test again. I did take air breaks, general knowledge and combination. I also have my P and S endorsements because I drove school buses and coaches for a while. I am so glad that I kept my CDL B up to date. I had to take the on-line CDL course That SWIFT required. That was kinda cool. I was a bit rusty on the air-breaks so it was like a refresher course. And anybody that says Air breaks was easy well they are fibbing.
I am mainly going to the school to learn how to drive the truck. Everything I have ever driven was an automatic...well except my motor cycles. But that is a whole different thing. I have got a tiny bit of experience driving a rig. My husband was teaching me. I can back the tracker to the trailer and couple and un couple it. I know my pre trip and post trip. And I can drive it down the interstate( but any monkey can do that)
and I did drive it through Indianapolis and Chicago.
I still need a lot of work on shifting and backing with the trailer. It is a bit intimidating because of its size... it is a few feet longer then a bus and it bends! I just hope by the time I get out there with my mentor I do not grind the gears so bad. That poor Pete we had. I just cringed every time I would miss a gear or forget to engage the clutch or make it Dance in the parking lot. So needless to say I NEED a lot of PAD time.
One more thing, do I need my Hazmat endorsment for Swift or do they let you get that while you are at school?

No you don't need it but it can come in handy down the road.

I did not mean to sound like a Smart ### there. It is just something My soon to ex would say about my performance behind the wheel!
