Well folks, after reviewing offers from two training companies, I have decided to go with Millis Transfer for my new career as a truck driver. I am very excited! Anybody else going to the 3/7/2011 school in Trenton, Ohio from the Charlotte, NC area or anywhere along the way? I would be willing to take on a rider since I am driving for help with the cost of fuel enroute to the hotel in Middletown, OH.
I am so looking forward to starting my life as a truck driver as being an out of work flight instructor and contract pilot is no longer paying the bills.
See you on the road,
Chris

Welcome aboard Chris- we all are through Trenton alot so look for us. Let us know if you have any questions along the way.

Yes welcome aboard Chris. I am an ex aircraft mechanic myself. 11 years as crew chief in the Air Force and 10 1/2 years at Delta in Atlanta. The airline industry isn't what it used to be. I hope you feel good about your decision and best of luck.

Thank you Baritone and Bear63. I do feel good about the decision. I know that this is not a career for everybody and it most certainly will not be easy, but I think it will be enjoyable. Also after all the extensive research I have done about the possible companies to go with as training companies, I feel that Millis is a good choice. I guess I will find out in the coming months.
I am still open to take a rider if anybody is going to training from this direction on Sunday. PM me if anybody is interested. -

good luck to you chris.....i can echo the sentiments of several of the others that dealing with those airplanes just isnt what it used to be......i've watched my end of it in air cargo steadily go downhill for the last 15 years, both from the left seat and from the management side as well....been there done them both.....funny that i see from reading alot of other posts from other companies as well that alot of us are trading in our wings for wheels.....starting my school next monday here in nc but going the pay for it myself and then choose my company route.....i can't see being bound to a company for a period of time just because they trained me but that's just me and i am lucky enough to be in a position to do it....i hope seeing such a relatively large number of former pilots in the mix lately means we're going to be alot safer and pay alot more attention to detail than some of the other newbies i see so many complaints about....

Good luck to you as well Flyingmusician. Who did you fly for around here? I ran the flight school up at Statesville Regional for a couple of years. One of the recruiters I spoke to couldn't believe it when I told her that a first year truck driver can make twice as much as a first year airline pilot. Good luck to you and stay in touch. I am getting ready to get on the road for Trenton, OH here in a few minutes.......

flew the three-holer on postal contracts until fedex basically wrote their own contract and stole it away from all of the contract operators earlier in the decade....what a hot rod that thing was.....durability of a tank with corvette performance lol they just don't make them like that 727 anymore.....most stable instrument platform i've ever flown in any conditions and catIII certified too....been general manager for one of the cargo outfits out of GSO for last few years.....higher up i go less airplanes i see so it's time to get out....yeah who would have thought those kids in those regionals are only making 18k and paying for training? not me. let you know where i end up in a couple month maybe we see each other on the road.
