Is there a difference? Could I just go to my doctor/mea/whatever and say I need a physical and it would be the same kind as a DOT one? Before I start down the road to learn to drive, I figure while I have insurance with the place I work at now, I might as well get one, that way if I do have something wrong that would prevent me from getting a CDL, I wouldn't be wasting my time at a school.
What's the difference between a regular physical and a DOT physical?

No they are not the same thing......I did however have my family practitioner do my last DOT physical. But look around in your phone book....there may be clinics or something that can do them cheaper. If you are going to a school find out if you will get a small break on tuition for getting your own physical.

Both physicals are about the same, the difference being the forms filled out for the DOT physical.

In a DOT physical ,the doctor "Certify's" his findings to a third party(DOT/company) a regular physical is between you and your doctor but in essence very much the same(same could be said for like a insurance also)

After taking mine today the only difference I can tell is how hard they push on the hernia test lol. I don't think my groin will be the same for a week.

Last year my Doc did this"sit-up" test version,ur flat on ur back, they place finger tips in the lower abdomen and have you cross ur arm over chest and do a sit up and hold while they probe they abdomen wall muscle

Wouldn't that suck if doing the exercise caused you to get a hernia
-
OMG driver if that caused you to get a hernia you are out of shape

Also, most trucking companies will want a new DOT physical done at their expense. They usually have a contract with a local doctor or clinic.
