for those who don't want to clicky the linky, employers don't have to pay Soc. Security for hires that were unemployed for two months (6.2% of wages) and if they kept them a year, got an extra $1,000 income tax credit (not deduction)

thats what my manager kept trying to tell me as i quit, its tough, not for some people, i kept trying to tell him it isnt the time out,it isnt the short time home, its the telling me something and lieing about it, telling me im home until the 3rd, then on the second saying i need to go, then telling me they never said the third. or i said i would work through christmas as long as i got home on a specific day, we talked about it at least 4 times that week, i still got a preplan heading 600 miles away that day. it was always a fight to get home, and a fight to stay home my 4 days off.

too many little games, people say its trucking and deal with it, but does that really excuse a company lieing to you? i wouldnt have a problem if they were honest. i dealt with the games when i was out, i got sick of the hometime issues. thats all, thats why i left

Maybe I'm a control freak, but your issues are the same that I had. Every company is just a different version of each other. For me the answer was to go owner/operator. I went the l/o which means I have a contract that forces them to do certain things. Yes, they said they would do a lot of things that aren't in the contract, if it isn't written in the contract then I don't believe them.

I can tell you Eric in dispatch hates any o/o who tries to assert himself. Just ask Etch about that one. Just before Christmas they offered me a load that was a nice load, but was going to cut it closer than I was comfortable with getting home for Christmas. I asked if they would get me home when I had already told them I wanted to be home. Eric's message was no guarantee, so I refused the load. At that he went ballistic using threats to get me to take the load. The simple fact is I tell them when I'm available and I take loads based on what I need to make money. I don't have as much control as I would like, but much more than when I was a company driver.

One of the biggest problems especially with "take it or leave it" dispatching is that you don't know if the problem with poor loads is poor dispatching or lack of good loads. Since I already don't trust Roehl, I always feel like I'm playing Russian roulette, but overall it has been a good decision.

too many little games, people say its trucking and deal with it....

There in lies the problem... most people believe that statement and until we have enough people standing up and saying "NO IT"S NOT TRUCKING, IT"S JUST WHAT YOU WANT US TO BELIEVE NOT THE TRUTH" then they will continue to p**s on us and tell us it's raining!!!
I've been around this industry since the mid 70's and it's just pitiful what the companies want us to accept, time for us to take back some control by refusing to accept this garbage, how long do you think these places would stay around if we band together for 2 weeks, that's all it would take, 2 weeks.... Won't happen though... "Driver, it's trucking, get used to it"!!!!!

Get it on the qualcom. They can't dispute that. Don't talk about anything like this on the phone without concrete evidence. I asked about taking 1 of my vacation days tacked on to my 2 days off. I reaffirmed that yesterday when they set my PTA.

You can always get a digital recorder or blue tooth that records and play back their BS!

My mission is get out of OTR.

That is my point also. Since I can't change the world, I chose to change my little corner of it. I trust myself more than any dispatcher, fleet manager, or whatever they want to call themselves today. I know the balance I have to maintain between my family and the need to produce income. There is no company out there that cares about my family, they just want the trucks to roll.

I'll agree with you there! They are a company and no company puts anything ahead of its bottomline, to make money. Companies may have different levels to it, but relatively its the same thing.

BTW I totally prefer to talk over qualcom or emails. My current FM doesn't do that as well as the last, but I'm working on it...

I've been with roehl about 6 months and have not had a problem with home time but I stand my ground also. don't let them force you. confirm what day you are coming back not - ill be back in three days - if your coming back on tue morning. tell them i'm coming back on tue morning. and if they call b4 then don't answer the phone. don't be rude with them but don't let anyone walk on you or they will always walk on you!!
