I have a year exp driving otr, I went to C1 and was employed at Allen Freight and Werner in 1999. I know it has been a bit of time with not much exp. So I started applying and Swift says I would have to go through their school. I mean come on, it's been awhile OK but I really only need to be put with a trainer for a month to get the hang of the Quall com. I have got my DAC report last week and there is nothing on it. I had a DUI 11 years ago and thats it. I think this is just a way to get money out of me. But really I have thought about it and if I go through the school, I then can goto anyone. Right? I thought about MAY TRUCKING but I think I live to far from their nearest terminal. I live around Pittsburgh,Pa. Does anyone know of any companies that I can go for that would not send me through the schooling. Plus I have heard that Swift is notorious for sending to school then saying they have no avalible trucks. Thanks

unless you can get on with a small mom and pop company your going to have to go to school. If you can afford to pay for school yourself you'll be wayyyy better off the going to swifts school....
Now if your a good driver (not just in YOUR head but in reality) and have a good record since that DUI call Watkins Shepard thats who I work for AFTER you go to school, they'll send you out Solo without a trainer right out of school (that how they do things for everyone not just experianced drivers). Good money and miles, small family like company, tons of info on them here in the Watkins Shepard Section....
Good Luck!

THANKS! I am definitly gonna check out Watkins Shepard. That's what I'm talking about. I'm not a good driver in my head, I do know that I am one and I just need the chance to get rolling. But I will give them a call. Thanks again

So anyhow Watkins Shepard call me back today and the lady says that they do not have a school anymore and they would take me after I went to a school and could provide them with a certificate( which most schools/companies won't give you until you work the loan off through them). She kind of sounded a bit irritated with me after I said to her "It just kind of gets me that a company will take a person out of school with no real world exp. Someone who did a few back ups in school versus a person who lived on the road for a year and actually backed to real docks." I told her "although my exp. is 11 years old , I am confidante enough about my abilities to take a road test on demand." "And really all that I need is an updated refresher on Quall Comm and possible Hours of service rules". I know the 11/14 rules. They don't wanna hear that. So I guess I gotta do school then a mentor(they were called trainers a couple years ago), which isn't a bad thing, I know I did one before. It just seems like a big pile of money to me. I went with a trainer in 1999 that was the biggest d*&$ you ever wanted to meet. I can deal with it again I guess, I'm just trying to get back OTR and it is just sucking so far.

When I say my trainer years ago was a D*$#, first day in his truck he watched me drive for an hour then said If you need anything yell. We then ran as a team for 4 weeks and he wanted to keep me for the maximum allowed time because of the miles we were getting. I called that company after the 4 weeks and said either road test me or I'm done. I got road tested 2 days latter and was on my own. Also that trainer told me once "I'll just wake you up with a 2x4 to the head". Yeah right, I told him "do it and I'll break it over YOUR head". So there are all kinds, I just hope in the end it all work out. Like I said I just wanna be OTR, so I gotta do what I gotta do.
