You may want to consider looking at a new or slightly used truck. Your payments may not be that much higher when you consider that you probably won't be able to amortize an old truck for the same length of time. In addition you are looking at a truck with full warranty and minimal maintenance costs in the first couple of years. You can spec the truck for the job at hand. You also have some tax savings in the form of depreciation right offs in your first few years.

I wouldn't trust or invest in "new" technology at this point in time. There's far too many horror stories about trucks being down for extended periods of time. I like the fact that he's looking @ a moderately priced older truck that anyone can repair with little technology.

I agree, he says he wants to run team with his wife, so I am assuming he plans on putting a lot of miles on this truck. I would not go with an 11 year old truck if you plan on putting serious miles on it. You'll have it worn out before you even pay it off and when you do it will be worth nothing.

If you have to finance the truck why not look into something newer with warranty, it makes no sense to finance an 11 year old truck. I don't know of many places that will finance a truck that old without charging ridiculous rates.

I don't know why some people are still afraid of newer technology, I haven't had any problems with it. My experience with older trucks is if they start giving you a lot of problems get rid of it, put the money you would have spent in repairs into new equipment.
