'Nother wanna-be question.............just what devices are company provided, or is a driver expeted to provide to find directions to pick up's and drop locations? I'd guess to provide my own laptop for personal use also?

Company provides you with a truck, a qualcom, and the "Red Book". Some directions to receivers can be brought up with the qualcom. Best tool is your cell phone, company doesn't provide one.

Red Book is bascially the W/S bible and has all our terminal and drop yard locations in it.

Any other devices are on you, the driver.

Best devices for finding a customer:
    1) qualcom communication w/dispatcher
    2) Rand-McNally Atlas

#1 provided free of charge to driver
#2 costs approximately $15.00 and doesn't need batteries

Anybody know if/when WS is going elog? I thought all carriers, except the smallest, had to comply by the end of the year...or is this just a myth?

they will not do that until the government forces them to. Its a waste of money and reduces the productivity of a company.

I heard of a few drivers testing it out in some trucks, but that over a year ago, I think. They haven't talked about going in that direction nor do I think they would unless forced to. And I haven't heard anything about companies having to do that by the end of the year.

Great to hear. I am heading to Missoula for the 3/21 orientation and am glad to know that they still do it the traditional way. It was just my understanding that all carriers with over a certain number of trucks had to have them by the end of 2011.

I am really looking forward to the experience, it's something I have wanted to do since I received my CDL in 1985. As fate would dictate my other career as a police chief/professor distracted me for a couple decades, but now that I have hung up the gun and converted all my classes to online, I am ready to roll.

    Thanks!

First time poster. Been reading the forums for a week or so now.
Probably heading out to the orientation with W/S in a week or so at most.
As of now, being that I have only talked with them via the phone, I have been treated very well. They have been quick to answer any questions I have had.

I'm wondering now about what the average 'wait' time for a truck is. They have explained that after the orientation, you are put in a truck with a company driver headed towards your truck. They said it could take a week or so to get to it. Any thoughts on this?
