Do trip permits cover you on insurance also?
I am only going to be using the the truck a few times a month
so I am wondering what the best solution is for insurance so I am
not paying a whole bunch of money for nothing.

How did you get your base plate? I thought you had to have proof of insurance to get a plate. Like DB said what kind of permit you talking about or do you mean a trip lease?

A trip permit is issued at the POE, which allows you to run that state legally, in lieu of vehicle registration. Nothing to do with insurance, so you need to tell your insurance agent how much driving you're doing and where.

Just to clear up one thing--in may western states w/port of entries you can purchase trip permits on the way in--but you can also(like you will need in most mid&eastern states) purchase them and have them faxed to you in advance. You don't want to roll up on a scale in an Eastern State w/out proper permitting and "buy"yours permit there--

Yeah, now that you mention it, I believe you want to buy an Oregon permit BEFORE you enter the state also.
