my doctor had put my on Urocit-K, but my health benefits will only pay for "potassium citrate" which works. i have to take 4 per day, but the doc said, if i have no problems, then i can cut back to 2 a day...i fluctuate between 2 and 3 a day now..when i start "shooting out" those tiny crystals, i take an additional pill..

actually, my doctor told me to STAY AWAY from dark cola's as an ingredient in the dark cola's helps make for stones, and he told me to stay away from eating large amounts of spinach as well. some is ok, just do not over due it. beer is only going to make one pee, and then gain weight. best thing is simple constant hydration of water and fruit juices, some even say cranberry juice,to flush out on a regular basis.

until one passes a stone and nearly passes out from the pain, i'll try to let the females handle all the pain they can for me........

(i'm just that kind of guy)....:biggrin_25523:

I only had one in my lifetime back in my 20's and it was extremely painful. The doc ended up putting me in a sonic wave bath and broke it up that way. Then he gave me additional medicine for which I forget. Seems like it had iodine in it because I remember peeing orange and passing the crystals.

Is it unusual to feel pain in the front, right side radiating to the back when dealing with stones? That is what I felt yesterday.

Today my pain is more or less in my lower back towards the right side. It is starting to inhibit my day to day function.

Yeah your kidneys are closer to your back lower sides. If you are hurting bad, I would seek medical attention.

i'll tell you what, if you asked someone to whack you there and you drop and don't get up, for a day or two, i'd seriously think you have a problem..

i get a "throbbing pain" on my right lower back and a day or two later, i am shooting out crystals......it's sorta like my "alarm warning" that stones are a'commin'.......

The worst pain I ever felt was when I had a kidney stone. For me the pain was on the left side of my lower back and then spread down to the family jewels.

I was told by the urologist that the two leading causes of stones are chronic dehydration and drinking cola. He told me the best way to avoid getting stones is to drink plenty of water.

I went to the emergency room and the doctor tried to tell me I just hurt my back. Lucky for me the nurse wouldn't let me leave until the results came back from my urine sample. She was correct it was a kidney stone.

The first time I had them I kinda walked into the ER holding my right side. A doc saw me and said do you still have your appendix? I said no. he said you got kidney stones. LOL He was right. They gave me a pill and a lot of water and I managed to pass it. They came back a couple of more times on both sides and I was always lucky. Finally one Doc told me that the code red mountain dew and chocolate were 2 culprits so I cut back on them and drink a lot of green tea, kool aid and water now. I still drink code red more than I should but I can feel if they are acting up and flood the system with water befor it gets bad. Fortunately I have never had one blasted but I came close the last time. Good luck.

I've never had kidney stones, but my dad did. ended up losing a kidney over it. I had a bladder stone last year, they are no fun either. ended up getting it out at the V.A. In Portland Oregon. never been so GLAD to be rid of something since my ex-wife!
