Boy I hope this rocket scientist isn't indicative of all the people in West Virginia. This pea brain is why there's a lot of jokes about WV.

My take on this is.... This must be a test (joke).
Who....in their right mind....would even consider such as this? The OP knows it's wrong or it wouldn't have been stated....how they could get away with it.
It's either a TEST (joke) ....... a TROLL ...... or simply someone with NO INTEGRITY WHATSOEVER.

I recover the equipment dropped by your kind. First you will pay for flights, car rentals, motels and meals. Plus you have to pay a wage and it runs about $.65 a mile plus when you trash the equipment we get payed hour at the rate of $25.00. We get our pay from the owner of the equipment. Then they take you apart and have you for lunch. Then you can never own anything until you pay the debt off. I forgot you have to pay the court costs and all fees.:biggrin_25513::biggrin_25513:
And if you work for a very large company then they have all of there own costs that they will hit you with. yes it might be one of their driver that picks the truck. But it will still cost you.

So don't do it!!!! don't count on the company having insurance to pay me or others like me.

I like being retired, But I love these all expense paid trips and will go at a moments notice.

Drive it into a lake. Hopefully one in California. Of course make sure there's not people in or around the area.

    22 answers and 22 wrong . . that's about right for trucking.

Now for the real story . .

As an at will employee, your company can terminate you at anytime, anywhere for no reason whatsoever. As an at will employee, you can terminate your company at anytime, anywhere for no reason whatsoever. They can't charge you for any expenses they incur as a result of your termination and they can't withhold any earnings due to you. They can sue you if they're really stupid but they won't win a dime.

They can report it to DAC or WHOZITZ because you gave them permission to. Call your company, tell them you're terminating your employment, where they can send your check and you are withdrawing the permission you granted to report to WHATZIT, effective immediately. Leave the truck, loaded or unloaded in a reasonably secure place, like a truck stop, where the company already leaves their equipment over and over again and be done with it.

The first time was more like a public demonstration of what I thought of one company's lease purchase program. After 4 months I pulled into a truck stop near the company's terminal and announced on the CB that I was having a going out of business sale. I assured everyone all the equipment was mine to sell and had the paperwork as proof. In less than 30 minutes everything was gone--tarps, chains, tools-- especially since I announced on the CB before hopping out that I would accept any offers. Then I had a cab follow me to the terminal gate. I got out, locked the door, got into the cab and smiled and waved bye to the company van full of trainees waiting behind me at the gate. There was no ugly credit report or DAC attack. They did show I was inelligible for rehire for failing to follow company policy.

A couple years later I went to work for someone who always came up with some excuse for missing pay/miles and oops entire trips. With my last short check I was told over the phone, "Oh, I think you said something to make that broker mad. I can't pay you for those loads until I get paid and I don't know how long that's going to be."

Instead of delivering the load I drove it 450 miles out of route and went home. I parked the truck at a TA truck stop. Registered the truck and trailer with security, gave the fuel desk the bills and keys, sent the owner a fax notifying where the truck, trailer, load, and all equipment could be found and advised they charge those out-of-route miles to my last check and those missing trips. Worked another 7 years without that abandonment ever showing up.

In 14 years of driving those are the only two times I didn't do the right thing and properly return a truck. I did run the risk of ruining my career and would have had no one to blame but myself if no one would have hired me to do what I loved. So, before you call people names stop and think there are probably more on this forum that did something similiar but no one wants to encourage newbies to do something that will probably end any chance of ever getting work in trucking again. If you absolutely think you must abandon a truck, then make sure you have made every effort to protect the equipment and the load and can live with the possibility of ending your career.

UMmmmm..... i didn't know one could withdraw any permission one signed to give, to NOT report to DAC.......that's a new one on me, and he WILL GET DINGED by the company for expenses incurred for the vehicle recovery, or didn't you read what the guy said that recovers equipment...????

the BEST advice has already BEEN GIVEN, return the truck and quit. equipment abandonment is NOT something anyone wants on his/her DAC report.

and has anyone noticed, that the o/p has never returned...?? another in the wave of "drive by postings"..????

How kind and thoughtful of you to abandon the truck empty. I'm sure your company will appreciate it. Be a man and tell them face to face that you're quitting.
