That is a serious ticket. Once your employer's insurance company finds out, if you have any other tickets for speeding, they could tell your employer to let you go. Insurance companys can't fire you for "unsafe" driving awards but they can refuse to cover the equipment if you're driving it. No company can afford the liability. Was there another reason the officer stopped you and then just decided to cut you a break and give you the following too close instead? Whatever the reason for the ticket, you do need to try to get this removed.

I personally received a following too close ticket from an officer that had pulled me over and accused me of speeding. I was only a short distance from the mill, early for my appointment, and for the first time I didn't just smile and accept my ticket. I told the officer that I never argued with anyone giving me a speeding ticket before because I was guilty and knew it. I also told him I had never appeared in any court to fight a speeding ticket but for his ticket I would take the time, make sure I was routed to Oregon to appear because I knew for a fact that there was no way he clocked me at 63 mph. He went back to his car and came back about 10 minutes later and said, "OK, I'm not going to write you for speeding but I'm giving you a ticket for following too close." I guess that is just one of those tickets where if a young officer is bound and determined to write you up for something you can't be expected to fight it and unless you have a dash cam can't prove he is lying. I wrote the judge and explained how my ability to make a living could be taken away for a very serious safety violation and the circumstances leading up to the ticket. The ticket was removed from my record.

You might seriously consider hiring a lawyer for this one. That is a very bad ticket to have. Good luck to you.

I hope you wasn't following too close driver. That's the very best way I know of to pizz off anyone in a car and promote the worst possible image of a trucker. I was passed by a real big rigger yesterday in SC on I-26 who couldn't have been four foot max off a cars bumper...the bad thing is the car was being held up by another car in front of her. The tailgatee was a woman who appeared to be in her mid-late forties and was obviously really irritated to have that W-9 on her butt, and rightly so. Also if a truck tailgates another truck the view of the shoulder ahead is blocked completely. Several years ago on I-84 EB just east of Danbury Ct a truck who was following another truck way too close hit a trooper who was on the shoulder with a four wheeler.Due to heavy traffic the lead truck saw the trooper (but could not move over) but shifted a bit to the left..the tailgater did not. Trooper died for no reason other than ignorance. I'm not saying you were tailgating BG....I'm saying I hope you were not. If you were not I hope you get the ticket cleared.

 

its pretty hard to follow at the correct distance--every time you try somebody else darts in there
and can you really imagine if there were 300 feet between every truck??
we would have to build more roads just to hold the over flow

 

I would think in heavy traffic they'd have to have a little understanding/lee way.

Now out on the interstate, under "normal" conditions, I try to keep 6 seconds when I'm loaded. Unloaded, I follow a little closer....
