I have a friend who has a couple radios one base and one in his pov truck. He can talk to people all across the country.
If I have a Cobra 25 LTD Classic do I only need a amp and better antenna to do the same? What will I need to be able to talk to drivers all across the country?

Skip needs to be rolling before you can even think about talking across Country for starters...Next thing would be your antenna..."Taller the better" ...And last would be Power. Of course using a Amp will help out tremendously. But if your antenna ain't right, no mater how much power you run, it wont be enough...
Another thing to consider would be the channel you pick to try and talk cross country on when DX is rolling...Although it is possible to chat across country with someone on 19, it's not likely you'll be able to simply because of local traffic on the channel...Not impossible, just not likely...
Channel 6 would be another channel which would be hard to make a contact on simply because of some of the people that hang out on that channel running Meg-a-Watt stations that even if they herd you out there, if your not one of their "Homies", their not going to give you the time of day...
Now DX can be found on just about every channel on the radio when it's rolling, channels that are less crowded would be easier to make long distance contacts on...
Just getting started I would listen in on channels that you hear stations fairly good that you know are in different States, and are not real crowed and when you hear someone, make note of his/or her call sign (handle or numbers) and try to get back with them by calling them by name (or their numbers) People if they hear their name being called are more likely to try and get back with ya! -
Something else to think about is getting a radio with SSB (single side band) 36-40 USB and LSB especially 38 LSB are good stations to talk skip
-
Yep SSB is the better mode.
