Van and big-rig collide, igniting fire

COSTA MESA - A 16-year-old girl suffered serious injuries early Saturday after side-swiping a tractor-trailer, an accident that punctured the big-rig's fuel tank and ignited a large fire, authorities said.
The girl was westbound on Sunflower Avenue near Harbor Boulevard in a 1994 Dodge Caravan about 2:30 a.m. when she collided with the semi, Costa Mesa police Lt. Dale Birney said. Knocked unconscious, she was pulled to safety by her two passengers as flames spouted from the big-rig's pierced tank.
Paramedics transported the girl, a Santa Ana resident whose name was not released, to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where she was was being treated for life-threatening injuries to her head and neck.

I agree. Let's hope the trucker doesn't get the blame. It sounds like a little girl was doing what she oughtn't to.

Sounded like the 16 year old hit him. Probably distracted with her friends in the car. I am glad to hear they got her out though.

Good grief! I'm glad the truck driver wasn't injured.

Guess I better re-read the passage on fires in my CDL manual. *gulps*
