I have the S980....everything except the final transistor section is the same. Let me know if I can answer anything.

Thanks Dutchman! Do you like it? Anything you don't like about it? I have a chance to trade my TS500V for one and am kinda on the fence. I believe they are more radio than many people need or are willing to $pend the money on. Maybe the reason I can't find much on them other than the manufacturers notes.

I love it....I bought it new in 2009 (or whenever the green lights came out) and I have used it almost daily since. Very stable on AM & SSB, loud & smooth audio as well. Dual mic jacks, Top Gun lotta cool features.
Can't say there is anything I dont like about it, the only radio I like better is the Omegaforce S45 HP, because it has memory channels and a scan feature! -
I'm running one good radio.....one thing I've noticed is in cold weather the freq counter will wander a bit until it warms up then it settles down..
-
I may be over analyzing this situation here....but you dont plan on putting that radio in the loader in your avatar do you? Only reason I ask, is because if you are in clolse proximity (less than 1/4 mile) of the other radios you are communicating with, you may sound muffled or garbled since you have a decent amount of power at such close range.
Could have nothing to do with your application, just throwing it out there. -
MANY radios do that. My brother lives in Mn near St. Paul and his radio goes dead when it gets below ZERO .....
-
My 2950 did that in NV one day...wasn't quite below 0 yet but it was single digit weather...just nothing! lol

Well, Thats exactly what I had in mind. I'm in that loader for 12-16 hours a day feeding an asphalt plant and loading material on trucks going to other plants. When the drivers get to chatting in the yard they make it a little hard for the plant operator and myself to communicate. That's why I bought the 500V. If I can trade it off for the S9 and achieve my goal I would rather not bother with the amp. I originally bought the Cobra comp for this but it ended up in my truck and seems to like it there.

Has your company considered using VHF or UHF for business communications
