I just talked to someone and that is true. They are doing that now. And I don't know if any other companies are doing that you will have to call and check. But I didn't know anything about it so it is something new. Hope this helped...

It goes under many different names.
Some call it a security deposit,
or escrow, or they hold 2-4 weeks pay back.
It's all about the same thing.
They will make you sign something, that closely resembles what they are doing.
I suggest avoiding any company that does any of these things.xlsdraw Thanks this. -
I got my OTR training pay every week and the "hire/train deductions" were on hold. Since I started driving, Dec. 18, I've been getting plenty of miles and had the "deductions" with held in increments. I don't miss it. My bank account is growing, and my pay outs are shrinking. In the short time I've been here, I've started to really like this CO. for the people & the way drivers are treated. It's all pro active and we're human, not #s in a computer file.

1. "hire/train deductions" were on hold. Did they deduct the $50 from your paycheck?
2. "deductions with held in increments". I was told increments of $50 per week for 6 months. Is this how they're deducting your payments?
3. "pay outs are shrinking." Are they deducting less as time goes on? Need a lot of help with this one.
4. How many miles you averaging a week?
I was strongly favoring this company until I heard about the promissory note thing. They have a terminal close by. It doesn't paint a good picture when a company has to retain their employees by using a monetary penalty or commitment. It's even more interesting when it's applied to the workers who can afford it the least. It doesn't exactly make you want to work there.....does it?
TommyA, I sure could use your clarification on this stuff.

Sorry if my post was clear as mud. The thing about "deductions" is this. WEL spends a lot of money on each new recruit. If infact you quit or get fired for cause within a certain time frame, the company can recoop some of their loss by deducting it from your pay. There are some items issued to you that you are charged for, but not right away. After you start driving & getting weekly pay, they take out payment for an item, not all at once. I can give you the list if you really need it. Its not a scam.

I started a year ago this month. I also had deductions, but it was for things like pulp thermometer, load locks, padlock, and other equipment needed to run. I dont know if they have changed the fundamentals on this, but even if there is a modest "deposit" it is understandable. They hire heavily and a large ammount of these drivers just dont work out. There is substantial cost in drivers that are trained but then quit.
I personally have had great experience with the company. I was given a virtually new truck, they have tripacs, allow inverters, allow pets, allow riders, and they run you good miles. I dont have a "big brother" feeling, I do whats required of me and they leave me alone. In the last 2 months I have run from the east coast to the california 3 times. I am averaging ~3250-3500 miles. Pay for detention has been paid every time I submitted it.
They are worth giving it a shot...ProSonic83, Schism and Pop Thank this. -
