Sorry if that offended you - its the usual retort that many posters use in this forum. What company driver question?
BTW - I'm a solo lease, and I get home as frequently as I desire. But lets be real about this. All drivers can only take off as much time as they can afford, and it doesn't matter whether they own, lease or are employed. The majority of us are paid only when the wheels are turning, so even a company driver ends up sacrificing a paycheck to take time off.

ironpony Thanks this. -
I don't get offended that easy, you're not that important.
Here is my opinion on lease/purchase.
1. If you have crap credit or the inability to save it may be your only option.
2. A new truck or payment the size of a new trucks is hard to overcome even under the best of circumstances.
3. The payments are way higher than you could expect on a straight purchase.
4. The vast majority of people fail in these programs, so its a tough road.
5. The companies prey on people that are not educated enough to know better.
Now that being said I have nothing against Prime at all, I did my thing there and I left. They kept me moving, never lied to me, and I was treated fine.
If I wanted to take time off, it was hard to catch up because those payments come every week.
In my opinion buying a solid used truck is a much better way to go about it. -
Here's a question for ya. Did Prime buy out Montgomery in Wellston,Oh? I've been seeing alot of Prime's trailers in Montgomery's lot.
-
Montgomery does the spotting over at Gen. Mills. They might just be putting them over there when it gets too crowded.Part Time Thanks this.

Well you mean nothing to me either, and by your post count you're not heavy. Que nada. Thanks for your opinion, it's noted.
So here's one for you. If you go back through this forum you'll find many people who have been totally ruined in their finances and life by taking the advice to "go buy a solid used truck." Without the requisite experience in trucking operations, business operations, and a serious plan - just buying a truck and winging it is most likely a formula for total disaster. And I'll agree, many carriers are predatory in nature in their lease/purchase plans.
IMO, Prime's lease is better than most - but that's my opinion. I didn't jump into this without quite a bit of study, and certainly working the numbers and studying the lease itself. With that in mind and an economy on the upswing it's certainly working for me, and I daresay many others as well. There is only so much "coddling" that a carrier can do when it comes to independent contractors per IRS regulations. I think its recognized in the law, that you are an adult and should be capable of making sound decisions on your own. Unfortunately many who attempt this do not have the requisite knowledge, experience and judgment to be successful.
However, there is risk involved as there is in any business venture. Given appropriate managment of those risks, one can be quite successful here - even as you admit yourself. The SBA notes that 80% of all new business ventures fail each year. Keep that in mind before you step up. -
The last couple of times I dropped an empty at Wellston, the line along the fence was quite full. I'd agree, its overflow storage.Part Time Thanks this.
-
Not sure what that means or why its important.
No, what I said is that it will be a tough go for a solo driver.
So tell me, what is there lease payment these days per week? Truck only is fine.Last edited by a moderator: Mar 11, 2011
