you don't make it on your own, you still don't make as much as yrc guys on a 15% pay cut. you didn't negotiate the pay rate, they told you what they pay, about .8-10 cpm less than union carriers, and 3-5 dollars less per hour.

they only pay as much as they do because they worry that some of the workers who are smarter than you would want to join a union when the company starts playing favorites and not going by seniority.

    Johnnyr33 and skinnytrucker Thank this.

Yes I did negotiate my starting pay. I choose not to work union.(not smart enough).Holland, Roadway,Yellow share a yard Here in Piedmont SC. And Holland is hiring. Saia In Greer SC is Hiring Estes hiring in Columbia SC and Charlotte NC (non -union) I was driving casual at Roadway in 1998.My buddy went full time I did not. He made it a good 5 years be fore the lay off. Nobody wants to hire ex-union guys around here.He had to go back to the road.ABF is hiring here they are .52cpm Thats less than Saia and Estes.ABF will be at .60cpm i 2013.I'll not make any comments on how smart or not smart one is.If you choose union I respect that. I just don't need them to hold my hand. 20 perhour .49cpm home everyday thats not bad in anybody's book. Oh, profit sharing too.Down here in the south seniority has been used every where I have worked. No need for collective anything. If I did not agree to the terms (I) can (choose) not to work for him.We can still work on a hand shake in the South.I made it 50 years own my own.Just so you'll know young man.

well, if only you had put it more like that in your first post, maybe it wouldn't have been offensive to someone who has decided to work union because of being burned by multiple non union companies!

ps, abf might start drivers out at a slightly lower rate, but at abf, you start out with the best health insurance and pension in the industry, estes and saia don't offer anything comparable. you will be paying for the insurance, and you will be contributing to a 401k.

i drive a day cab here in Odess, TX. our terminal keeps getting crap equipment. well, yesterday it was raining, yes, here, raining lol, judt to make the day better. I was coming up to a light and was slowing down just fine. inside lane. downshifted to 5th (9speed), put my foot back on the brake to slow more, and the pedal went to the floor. nothing. didnt lock up, just kept rollin and the trailer was on it own authority i suppose. i pumped it, nothing, clutch in, nothing, so at this point all i could think was "avoid cars" so since the oncomming lanes were still at the red light i slowly swung in the turn lant to avaiod the two stopped cars ahead of me. as soo as i entered the lane my trailer hit anpther trailer (a truck with a fifth wheel trailer haulin poles). caught its corner somehow. he was in the outside lane! wth? how the hell? anyhow, pushed his truck into the car ahead of him, mine came to a stop thank goodness cuz the intersectiona nd overpass was full andi had nowhere to go ifi hit that point. my front trailer axel was twisted and busted bad, and both passenger tires flat. sooooo..... they better not throw me under the bus on this...... ugh. i love my job but im not gonna drive unsafe crap after this! what do you think they will do? ive never been ina wreck before.

I worked for aaacooper for many years. They were good to me, I always had a job and many people i recommended also gained employment there. If you like lots of hours and always working they are the right place for you. Also benefits are very good. I left on my own reconnasance for a differrent career path.

It may be better with them elsewhere, but not in Odessa. I'm with southeastern frieght lines now. Better family and driver oriented and way more pay and better, safer equipment.
